(5,499 posts)I just wondered what happened. I see many are relieved but I don't exactly know why. I was uncomfortable with the account myself, but it was hard to out my finger on why.

(18,060 posts)I served 2 terms on the MIR team a couple of years ago and this was a red flag of a troll.
If you ever get the chance to serve on the MIR team, I urge you to do so, it's an eye opening experience.

(5,499 posts)I couldn't put a finger on it.

(76,704 posts)I'm on my 2nd term right now.
The number of trolls & spammers is astonishingly high. Much higher than I would have thought, which I suppose, speaks to the effectiveness of MIRT. If one is not on MIRT, one has no idea of the volume and how quickly these intruders are dispatched.

(5,011 posts)like she was trying to take over the board. I got tired of just seeing her name.
And of course, usually nothing but Twitter links and little or none of their own content.
I didn't realize there were so much bad information coming from them, but I tended to just ignore the posts after a while.

That was written a few weeks ago, just because of that member. It's about adding misinformation/disinformation as a choice in the alert system.
That member had a habit of posting untrue stuff and then refusing to edit or remove when asked to.

(69,364 posts)DU needs a "misinformation" alert.

(34,294 posts)Her stuff was all clickbait and she felt like a troll, but she hadn't posted anything inappropriate, at least from what I saw.
People can get in like that and then try to take over stuff, so I'm glad she's gone. Maybe they matched her up with a previously known troll?

(24,722 posts)Yes. This was one I was thinking about. Honestly, it was starting to be a hassle to avoid the rapid fire posts of which many were just clickbait. I would click on an OP and realize who posted and get annoyed.

(29,369 posts)consider_this
(2,847 posts)they were asked to correct or take down something that was egregious misinformation or disinformation - at the moment I do not recall which, but I called them out on it, and instead of correcting, started a new post with a huge rant about basically how they were gonna post whatever they want - hell be damned on correcting stuff.
I did later notice them fix something (credit where credit is due), so thought they were catching on, but I got to avoiding most of their posts due to the firehose of stuff, so I never kept a further eye on if the behavior actually improved or not. I did note they were riding on 2 hides for a long while, and surprised they lasted so long before the hammer/pizza delivery.

(76,704 posts)I expressed doubt about something she wrote as having dubious mathematical basis, and she kept replying with cites that were merely opinion. Sort "Yeah, but look what this guy thinks." My thought was "So?"
This went on for 3 exchanges & I dropped it.
I was on MIRT during her 2 months, so there was a lot of discussion about her.

(29,078 posts)we still have land line phones (we're practically Amish!), doddering around the bingo hall mumbling about young people these days. How we DUers make the poor troll feel very very bad and experience feelings of dread and hate and so on. Heh!

(319,076 posts)she had some issues admitting when a Tweet was a Fake Account and when there was Misinformation. So that wasn't good for DU.
Why not just Correct it and move on? And learn from our Mistakes.

(319,076 posts)Corrections... she had more Tweets to post.

(15,802 posts)Establishes pro democratic accounts on popular social media accounts
Then sets up pro democratic cross platform and buy followers to increase numbers
Starts with pro democratic messaging to attract legit followers.
Gradually add "constructive criticism" and then begins to attack legitimate pro democratic organizations.
The negativity increases.
Make up false allegations of corruption or malfeasance and attacks individuals who push back on false charges..
Responses are then magnified and unwitting followers amplify the negative messaging
Sew mistrust, chaos and recrimination.
wash rinse and repeat..

(15,400 posts)Sorry, I awkwardly put my two cents in enough myself to recognize that constant posting of AI and questionably sourced stuff to create a single narrative is a tell of trying too hard to fit in. Or a bot.
We all have pet subjects, and then there's the wider range of opinions to throw our two cents in on. But there's always a tell when any certain poster is trying to drive a narrative; the primary tell being a poster constantly not following the rules of the forum, especially after being called on it.
