Tyreek Hill traffic stop: When Hill spoke later in the day he asked, "What if I wasn't Tyreek Hill?"

Joyce Alene
When Hill spoke later in the day he asked, “What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?”

Michael Steele
Tyreek Hill @cheetah on his way to the stadium, “detained” for a traffic violation. 4 cops, he’s on the ground with a knee in his back. He was subsequently released.

A traffic violation.

The knee would've been on his neck and not just his back.

Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support.”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was travelling in the same car as his client and called the incident “a heartbreaking situation” and “completely unnecessary.”

3. If his name wasn't Tyreek Hill, he would likely have been held accountable for multiple instances of domestic violence

The officers obviously didn't know who he was or what prior arrests he had.

9. I'm implying he's gotten a free pass a couple previous times because of his name as an NFL player

Three domestic violence incidents in his past, one of which includes a broken arm on a three year old child. Got probation the first time for strangling his pregnant girlfriend and nothing for the others.

By 4 cops. None of us are without our issues and regressions.

He didn’t deserve this just because of what you perceive was a “free pass”.

According to a Stillwater Police Department arrest report, his girlfriend at the time, Crystal Espinal, showed up in an emergency room with cuts and bruises on her face and neck. (The officer who filed the report noted that her lip was busted, that she was wincing with pain and that the mark under her eye was turning purple as she spoke.) Espinal, who was eight weeks pregnant at the time, said Hill had grabbed her neck with his hands, pinned her against the wall and then thrown her to the ground like a “rag doll.” She told an officer that Hill had picked her up by her hair and put her in a headlock. After Espinal had screamed “I can’t breathe” several times, she alleged, he released her, then sat on top of her, punching her in the stomach.

saw a different video. I didn't see anyone getting beat to the ground, or beaten at all. I saw a bunch of assholes with ego issues, including one of the cops.

He pleaded guilty to strangulation. He beat his pregnant partner. And that wasn’t his last bit of DV.

Does he deserve this from a traffic stop? Nope. But he also doesn’t deserve to be making millions and running around free when he’s a psychopathic abuser.

Cop saw me speeding. I lowered windows (untinted), checked out as white, got a ticket.

That being near the stadium, he may be a known quantity. Cops got tons of data. More than you suspect.

I just look at statistics. White folks rarely hit the pavement.

It's not an isolated thing. And one should not generalize from one example, but see the big picture. It tells a story.

He was kicked off his college team for punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and several years later was recorded threatening the mother of another one of his children. There have been other incidents including an assault. He’s never faced any meaningful consequences for any of that solely because he’s Tyreek Hill.
