General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have read all comments so far and have an evolving opinion about Taylor Swift timing.
In my original post, I wrote that it was bad timing as it would suck up the oxygen of publicity that should have gone to Kamala's debate performance. I have read all replies, and accept I may well be wrong. Thank you to all who reply, including those who agree or disagree.
Incidentally, my wife is a Swiftie, and I am a semi-Swiftie. Our Youtube is mostly Taylor Swift! My wife has been annoyed at me showing my
excitement of the possibility of a Taylor Swift endorsement and what an impact it would have, so I am very pleased that TS has done it. It is
a very courageous move as she already has a target on her back.

The shine should be on VP Harris.

Annnnnnywy, back to Taylor Swift, the point is to bring in NEW voters. Lots and lots and lots of them. Harris won the election tonight. In part because of her amazing debate performance- but history is going to show just how impactful the Swift endorsement was.

(2,508 posts)This was deliberate timing. The Harris campaign is no doubt a part of the coordination for this.

Also, in her post, she has now directed her hundreds of millions of followers to watch the debate.

(114,606 posts)But, no. Kamala Harris' performance was too good and too historically so-- for it not to be the focus.

(13,647 posts)This is a huge boost to an already surging campaign, and does nothing but amplify Harriss epic debate performance.
Meanwhile, Trump has the endorsement of who? Kid rock and a couple of other misogynistic fading stars?
drray23
(8,820 posts)It brings attention to the debate to her 283 million followers and will likely result in a flood of new voter registration voting for Harris-Walz.

(28,836 posts)Even Fox News said she won the debate and that was before the endorsement.
Kamala's performance was such that it would have preempted the negativity, regardless of the aftermath or the endorsement.

(2,431 posts)Taylor Swift said she watched the whole debate, and this is her response.
She got a million+ Instagram likes in under half hour.
How many of those fans will go watch the debate tonight even if only to have the same experience that Taylor Swift did? To join the excitement?
That would hit far less powerfully tomorrow.

(12,807 posts)I understand the feeling that Taylor Swift would take up the media cycle, but for some reason, I'm not feeling that this time around.

(5,836 posts)Taylor's statement about having watched the debate and doing her research on candidates stances was excellent. She had to make her statement right away because rightwing media was increasingly lately trying to portray her as MAGA because she hadn't spoken out yet. She also announced her support for Biden and Harris 4 years ago at time of VP debate so it makes sense.

(131,181 posts)It may come as a shock to discover that there are many people who aren't at all interested in Taylor Swift or other celebrities and aren't influenced by celebrity endorsements. I'm old, and until a few months ago I couldn't have picked her out of a lineup. I do realize now that she is very popular, and it's in her favor that she loves cats and is a childless cat lady, but I don't think many people over 35 will find her endorsement overwhelming.

Like many here, I think it seems logical the announcement would have been coordinated with the Harris campaign; and it's great timing.

(3,110 posts)Taylor Swift has used her concerts previously to help people get registered to vote. She has a huge platform and uses it well. This was very smart. And the childless cat lady sign off was the icing on the cake
