Stories I’ve researched so you don’t have to:

First, officials in Springfield, OH say they have not received any credible reports of Haitian immigrants abducting and eating pets, despite what Donald Trump, J D Vance and right wing web sites have said.

Second, the Mayor of Aurora, CO and a City Council member issued a joint statement downplaying Venezuelan gang activity in the Denver metro area, saying: “The overstated claims fueled by social media are simply not true”

In the first story, no basis can be found for the claim that immigrants are eating pets other than a Facebook post, which then exploded in social media.

In the second story, it is true that Venezuelan immigrants “took over” an apartment complex, but it was because the owners had deserted the building, leaving it with serious maintenance issues, boarded up windows, etc. The City had the building closed. The partial truth is that gangs tend to form in impoverished areas, but not to the extent claimed by right wing media.

Both stories were spread by what a fellow DUer labeled AngerTainment news organizations and right wing web sites. These sources amplify non-truths and part-truths, implying that it’s happening down the street from their audience. It scares people and riles them up. For whatever reason, there seems to be an appetite and a market for it, most likely because the story blames their perceived political opponents and that’s what the consumer of these stories is looking for.

We must not forget that Fox News knowingly lied about voter fraud to keep their viewers who would not watch if they were told the truth.

2. Aurora police arrested 10 people for suspicion of gang activities

AURORA, Colo. (TND) — Police in Aurora, Colorado on Wednesday released the names of 10 members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua operating in the city.

Among the names is Carlos Aranguren-Mayora, who the Aurora Police Department said has had many encounters with local officers, as well as law enforcement agencies throughout portions of the state. He faces 38 charges in five Colorado court cases for crimes dating back to December, according to the department.

The agency said it arrested two other Tren de Aragua members for a shooting at an apartment building in July. Jhonardy Pacheco-Chirinos and Jhonnarty Dejesus Pacheco-Chirinos allegedly had ties to the incident at Fitzsimons Place in Aurora.

Jhonardy Pacheco-Chirinos was also arrested roughly four months earlier for his connection to an assault that took place at the same building in November, according to the agency.
