As a traveler, I'm both a proud American and a citizen of the world — and I've got a few thoughts on this coming election.

This election is deeper than partisanship. It's far more than Republican versus Democrat. In the future, big challenges like pandemics, refugees, and climate change will be blind to borders. They'll be everyone's problem and only solved by working together as a family of nations.

The world needs not American isolation, but American leadership. Not the chaos of Trump, but the stability of @KamalaHarris.

Of course, how you vote is your choice. But if you believe, as I do, in the importance of nations working together constructively, the stakes are really high...and the best candidate is clear. Register to vote today at http://vote.gov — and encourage your travelin’ friends to do the same!

I don't watch his shows but have seen a few. I found him interesting because of his anthropological perspective, culture and food are components of one another and he represented it well in his shows that I saw. When I heard of his activism I decided that I liked him.

I'm glad he's speaking out on this.

There are sooooo many people with a following out there who are afraid to piss off white people so they stay quiet as not to invite any magat-type whitelash.

But maybe Rick knows the odds of that are low since he's on PBS.

mainly to keep in touch with far-flung family and friends around the globe.

Rick Steves has a FB group that I follow as well. I did notice a comment on one of his FB posts where his Democratic leanings were apparent where one follower was "surprised" and not at all pleased. I am sure that there have been more, but they are certainly in the minority.

He certainly KNOWS that his views are not popular with some. But he is still NOT afraid to state them. Like Kamala & Tim, he doesn' try to put people down, but rather to raise them up.

If they're not willing to be raised, that's their problem.

Right now, It boils down to:

The Uber Rich and Corporations against the remaining 99% of the U.S. Population.....

Of course the 30% MAGAts don't realize they are soon to be in that 99%, if they help Trump/RepucliCONs win this one......

He already warned them that if they vote for him this time, they will NEVER NEED TO VOTE AGAIN.....Duhhhhh ?????????

treasure. His upbeat nature reminds me a lot of Kamala My husband and I have visited countries with three of his tours and I highly recommend them all! There are so many places still on my bucket list. Many are not part of his tours though.

Rick concentrates primarily on Europe, but his interpretation of "Europe" includes Turkey, and THAT is a country that everyone should see for its being a literal crossroads of cultures between Europe and Asia. My husband and I visited that country in 2016 and I would go back in a second. The Turkish people deserve MUCH better than Erdogan.

His tours deliberately try keep a balance between touring as a group and interacting individually with the local people. The guides he chooses as leaders literally adore him because he receruits them in person and treats them all so well.

In one serendipital experience on my Turkish tour, our group had paused for a lunch stop in a picinic area. Some took advantage of a short hike with the guide to a lesser-known nearby attraction while hubby & I, along with a couple other older tourers, simply took the opportunity to rest in the shade , collect our thoughts, and/or read, so we were a bit scattered, rather than grouped together.

While I was reading, a Turkish woman who was sweeping the brickwork, dressed in traditional working dress and wearing a headscarf, tentatively approached me. I could see that she wanted to say something, so I looked up and she grew a bit bolder. I was able to speak some basiic Turkish greetings (Rick urges us all to learn at least some of the local greetings) so we exchanged them, then I tried French (no luck), my minimalistic German (some luck), and finally English (no luck).

But with the English, she held up a finger meaning wait, and whipped out a smartphone. She quickly dialed a number, rapidly spoke Turkish, and then handed the smartphone to me. I tentatively said "Hello" and got a reply in perfect English.

It turned out that the person on the other end of the smartphone was the sister of the woman trying to speak with me. She was at work in her office in Istanbul and she told me that her sister wanted to talk to me and that she would translate if I didn't mind.

So we had this lovely three-way conversation. The woman was simply curious about who I was, where I was from, and how I liked her country, of which she personally was very proud. So I asked the woman and her sister about themselves in return and learned somethng about their lives as well. It was an unexpected but human moment among three women wanting to know about each other.

But for me it was also meaningful to see a woman living in traditional style - WITH a smartphone, no less - and her sister living in more or less European style, with all of us more interested in connecting with each other than anything else.

The Turkish people are absolutely lovely.

magical moment - and I've had so many other ones!

I have been so fortunate in my travels, no matter where I've gone, and with the colleagues from around the globe that I've had the privilege to work with!

There are MANY more people EVERYWHERE who want the same things for ALL of us and do NOT want to demean, belittle, or otherwise harm others than tsf and his RRW supporters would have us believe!

I NEVER want to live in a world where tsf and his fascist puppeteers hold sway again. EVER!
