You Gov. Poll: Harris by 5

A strong performance in Tuesday’s debate has boosted Vice President Kamala Harris to her biggest lead yet over former President Donald Trump, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

In previous Yahoo News/YouGov polls — one following last month’s Democratic National Convention and one released immediately after the vice president entered the race on July 21 — Harris and Trump were effectively tied. Harris’s best showing was a narrow 47% to 46% edge in August.

But the new poll of 1,755 U.S. adults — one of the first conducted after the Sept. 10 debate — shows Harris (50%) surging to a five-point lead over Trump (45%) among registered voters in a head-to-head match-up. She leads by a similar margin when third-party candidates are included (48% to 44%) and when only likely voters are surveyed (49% to 45%).

1. I've read a couple of news reports about some polling data coming out of places like Arkansas and West Virginia

which, while he's still leading there, is down considerably from what he scored there in 2020. Anyone else seeing something like this?

I'm wondering how they are rating voter enthusiasm, how a huge surge in Democratic voter registration is factoring in. Hitting the 50% threshold in a poll, which he has never done, is big. And I also wonder about some of these polls for her, when the same polling organization finds Democrats further down the ballot doing much better, especially in Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

And while I'm not really trusting the polling data, it is interesting to note that when third partiers are included, she's still up by 4. That's a big development.

4. The junk polls have started to enter the fray

Same as before to keep Agent Orange in the game.

There's a lot of reported belly-aching in GOP circles about Trump and his flailing campaign, how his penchant for rambling and going off on ridiculous and hateful tangents is affecting down ballot candidates.

They're losing. They know it.

7. I'm not sure this is a junk poll -- see my post below -- but I agree with your sentiment.

Their will be a lot of junk polls - and it's easy with a bit of research to discern whether the companies are led by republicans. Like the Mitchell poll of Michigan released yesterday. Republican pollster as indicated by their founder who mentions his Reagan allegiance right on his "our team" page.

So I ask fellow DUers to use caution when presenting polls. Please try to do just a little research as to whether they are truly independent -- or not. That's more important than being the first to post the result here. Thx.

12. I wasn't talking about this poll specifically

However, the polls over the last month+ are being affected by the same junk polls we saw in 2020 and 2022. It's being done deliberately to play with voter perception, play with the averages and give rhyme and reason to the cries of election fraud as we head closer to the finish line.

I've been watching for "within pollster" movement. This is one of the largest so far, moving from a 1 point Harris lead to a 5 point lead pre/post debate. And the loopy loomer / eating pets news is eating tfg's support alive.

I believe the support for Dems will only widen between now and the final election day. States like Florida, Texas, Alaska are already in play. More "traditional republicans" are jumping ship every day as the republican ticket and their sycophants descend into pure madness.

Gotta love it!

She got a post debate bounce, one that CNN seems to be doing its best to deflate. The debate seems to be "old news" already to them, since they can't spin it for their boy.

taking them and you can earn cash or gift cards at certain point levels. Have taken them since at least 2016 and the organization has gotten a lot better -- more efficient with fewer site glitches.
