Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWho are worse people: Trump supporters or Jill Stein supporters?
I hope many here have seen or heard about Angela Rye's appearance on the Breakfast Club with Jill Stein last week. After watching myself, I thought that Rye did a masterful job in exposing Stein. Stein and her running mate, for their part, were very defensive and combative during the show.
However, reading many nasty comments on Rye's social media feeds from Stein supports I got the feeling I had read comments like this before. Then it hit comments from Trump supporters after the debate last Tuesday. And I started to think there are several similarities between Trump and Stein supporters as well as one big difference.
The first similarity is an unreasoned hatred for the Democratic Party and all Democrats. And this is not about ideology, for the last several months both AOC and Bernie Sanders have come under more attacks from Stein supporters than Trump supports for the simple sin of supporting the Democratic Party nominee. Attacks on AOC have really ramped up the last few weeks because she has criticized Stein.
The next is a cult like attitude toward their leader. We've all seen this behavior from Trump supporters who can't abide any criticism of him. After reading the attacks on both Rye and AOC, Stein supporters have that same intolerance of any criticism of her.
Both groups also believe they are superior to everyone else. Evangelical supporters of Trump believe that they are doing God's will by voting for him and the rest of us are evil because we don't. Stein supporters and Green party members in general think they are morally and ethically superior because they are fighting to save the planet.
Next is a rejection of facts when presented to them. Trump supporters reject any facts unless he tells them to, anything from Covid to people eating cats. Stein supporter do the same. They really think that Stein has a chance to win this election despite every poll saying it's impossible.
The one big difference between these two groups is stark. Trump supporters tend to be lower income and not well educated while Stein supports are mostly upper middle class college graduates. That is a very big difference for me.

(1,750 posts)At least Trump supporters have an agenda of hate.. Stein is hate cloaked in false environmentalism.

(12,744 posts)They actually got off their fat asses and left their parents basements to storm the Capitol. Jill Stein supporters just whine and get sanctimonious while pretending to be revolutionaries.

(12,800 posts)It is not fair to have bothsiderism when the one side has giant behemoths ruining the actual Democratic turnout vs. the imaginary minuscule party maybe they would have voted Blue, but no evidence yet.
Also to note, not you, but others...Oh we didn't turn out the Afro-American vote in hugest numbers or we are "only" getting two thirds of the Latino vote.
How about doing the Big scary thing and change some Caucasian voters minds?

enough third party voters would have voted for Clinton in states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, had the race been two way, to have delivered those states to Clinton.
The same was true of Florida in 2000.
Thats why the Green Party is funded in part by Republicans, to siphon off democratic votes.
But it goes beyond just exit polls. Stein and her supporters spend much more time attacking democrats than republicans. Nader did so in 2000 as well. And many of the attacks are dishonest. The effort that has on undecided voters cant be measured.

(60,436 posts)Trumpanzees are not bright/aware enough to know they are being used and manipulated.
Stein supporters are the manipulators. They are cold, uncaring, unfeeling, see Trumpanzees as useful cattle to be harvested when the time and purpose coincide.

(7,190 posts)If I were Harvard, I'd revoke Stein's degree, she's an embarrassment to that institution.
She's a complete and total washout in electoral politics, a total waste of time, energy and money. She loses support every time she runs, each time getting fewer votes. And her continued running for office prevents those who support the causes that she claims to be representing from making progress. She sucks up money and resources for herself, and achieves less than nothing for those who are still too gullible to stop supporting her.

(701 posts)Your run of the mill Green Party member isn't trying to help Trump or Putin. They don't feel the Democratic party is far enough left and are making a strategic (and incorrect, imo) decision to support a third party.

(701 posts)From our perspective, we want them to vote Democratic, but a vote for the Greens hurts less mathematically than a vote for Trump.

(71,555 posts)no chance...they want us to lose and I loathe them. I don't see how they sleep at night after the damage their candidate did as president...and he was their candidate. He would not have won without them. Green...get republicans elected every November.

(10,416 posts)Look, Stein supporters could be the worst people in the world, and yet their numbers are so small, miniscule really, that they can not come remotely close to the level of evil being pushed on this country by Trump supporters. Sorry, but this is an incredibly stupid question.

(11,057 posts)As best I can tell:
Stein exists only to embolden Republicans chances for winning presidential elections. Once every 4 years she crawls out of her hole and on to presidential ballots.
Stein supporters are stupid people
Trump supporters are a mix of racists, greedy rich people, ignorant people, and stupid people.
For the record I have never met a Stein or Green Party supporter in person, but am told they do really exist.
