(40,309 posts)The U.S.A. became a great nation in spite of religious anti-intellectualism, not because of it.
The gods some people worship are assholes.
I've got too much personal experience dealing with the damage done by people who worship these asshole gods.

(26,202 posts)its a young woman talking about how her stepfather raped her from the time she was 6 years old and she lived with a monster, how he impregnated her at 12. How she had a choice and was able to have an abortion and she wants that option available for other abused young women.

(13,478 posts)Article in Pennsylvania Capital-Star describes it:
Duvall says in the 30-second spot, titled Monster that at the time she discovered she was pregnant, she had options that survivors of rape and incest no longer have after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Kentuckys current abortion ban has no exceptions for rape or incest.

I adamantly disagree with this point of view from the collection scientific, intellectual and moral perspectives.
No matter how strongly I disagree with people who hold the beliefs noted above, I do respect them to a certain degree.
The people whom I hold in contempt are the sort noted in this article from the Pro-Choice Action Network.

"In 1990, in the Boston area, Operation Rescue and other groups were regularly blockading the clinics, and many of us went every Saturday morning for months to help women and staff get in. As a result, we knew many of the 'antis' by face. One morning, a woman who had been a regular 'sidewalk counselor' went into the clinic with a young woman who looked like she was 16-17, and obviously her daughter. When the mother came out about an hour later, I had to go up and ask her if her daughter's situation had caused her to change her mind. 'I don't expect you to understand my daughter's situation!' she angrily replied. The following Saturday, she was back, pleading with women entering the clinic not to 'murder their babies.'" (Clinic escort, Massachusetts)
And that woman was one of the more sympathetic individuals described, since she was, after all, looking after her daughter.
In another article-- which I can't reference, (my apologies)-- that I read, the theme was "What caused you to end a friendship?" One woman wrote about having a fairly conservative friend confide in her that she (the friend) was pregnant.
The woman asked her friend what she could do to help with the pregnancy and the friend looked at her like she had two heads before stating that she intended to secure an abortion. The woman contributing to the article said that she expressed surprise upon hearing of this from her friend due the friend's conservative views. The friend's response was that her abortion was "different" and that she "was not like those sluts."
So, yes, there are monsters among us. But having a simplistic view regarding abortion doesn't necessarily make a person one.
