who has brought shame on Colorado and all its people.

The event was at the Arrowhead Golf Course, which is near a major aerospace facility in southwest metro Denver. The 'debate' was held by a local economic development corporation and the room was packed with Republicans.

Now, that by itself isn't that big a deal. After all, we see Buttigieg going into the Fox 'news' lion's den all the time. In terms of Boebert, Colorado US District 4 is an area where registered Republicans outnumber Democrats 2:1. We have been seeing some demographic changes, because more people are moving into the northern Douglas County portion of this district. This gradual change in demographic is adding weight to the urban portion of the district. Urban Colorado is quite blue, but this is considered the safest district in Colorado for Republicans, so we will see.

However, I attended an event where Boebert spoke briefly (and earlier one at this same golf club), and she really does have no clue. Many of the people in the meeting were business leaders who, in spite of rhetoric, understand how important a role the federal government plays in keeping our economy vibrant and growing. Boebert is getting some out-of-state PAC support, though, and there have been a few commercials aired. Calvarese, the Democratic candidate, was on Joy Reid's show, which gave her a boost.

Unfortunately, this is my district and it pains me to say that Boebert may well win just due to the hard right people on the eastern plains - though I do have some hope that the abortion issue, and Walz speaking to rural and white male working class voters may have an impact. If Calvarese wins, I will be delighted. I have been donating to her campaign.

This is a handshake and retail politics region, and Calvarese is driving around all through eastern Colorado and meeting with voters. Not sure what Boebert is doing but there are some real right wing-nuts in elected offices in Colorado's eastern rural counties.

We'll see. Here's a link to Calvarese's site in case any of you want to donate to her campaign.

I lived in Texas during this campaign. She was actually losing to the Republican candidate, Clayton Williams, who was a shoe-in to win. I remember the excitement about this man who “told it like it is”. Williams was the stereotypical “good “ole boy”, an oilman complete with ten gallon hat. Texans lapped it up. (I thought he was ridiculous since, as an outsider Midwest transplant, I never embraced the whole cowboy wannabe look and “don’t mess with Texas” attitude so prevalent in the state.)

It was his race to lose….and sure he gaffed his way throughout, including a rape joke. (This was before “Me Too” when misogyny was still a somewhat accepted practice). Richard’s was able to capitalize on his numerous mistakes, since this was before Trump when the GOP still had some values and standards in candidates and what was a deal breaker. A rape joke could lose you an election, unfortunately not anymore.

Richard’s lost her reelection to Shrub (what the great Molly Ivins called George W. Bush). She was an anomaly and the only D governor since Reconstruction and after her one term. Basically, she just lucked out with a very flawed candidate. But she had a national profile because of that race and her wonderful leadership….that the people there didn’t appreciate while they had it.

Luckily, I got out before she lost to Shrub.

Steve Schmidt's daily blog "The Warning" is here: https://steveschmidt.substack.com/

Cowardice is a contemptible quality, and American politics is infested with cowards. They are everywhere, like an army of insatiable termites devouring our country, eating away its virtues and leaving nothing but rot behind.

Among the legion of cowards plaguing American society and threatening our civilization are three “men” of particularly appalling character, two of whom hid in a closet on January 6, 2021, as the insurrectionists they collectively incited stormed the United States Capitol. They are Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz is running for a third term against Colin Allred, a Democratic congressman, attorney and former NFL player, who is exceptional. Many of you ask what you can do for your country and community during this difficult period of menace and danger when a rising fascism threatens our liberty directly, clearly and overtly.

Let me be direct.

Get involved in this campaign, regardless of where you live. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. DONATE and volunteer. You can play a role in removing one of the lowest, most contemptible, most dishonest, most extreme, most corrupt members of the United States Senate in American history.

Here is Ted Cruz in 2012:

Here he is in 2016:

Here he is in 2020:

Here he is in 2024:

Ted Cruz lives hard in Washington, DC. He is famous for being out late, very late and starting late, very late, every morning. Of course, this is an open secret in Washington, DC, but one that is unlikely to be reported to you because that information, while visibly obvious, remains unreported. Ted Cruz sits in Senator John Tower’s old seat, and more than fills the proverbial carafe. There is a great deal of talk around President Biden, his age and stamina, but it should also be appropriate to discuss a physical decline that is far more startling.

While Cruz’s physical deterioration speaks for itself, the more important issue is the wretchedness and awfulness of his character and his refusal to fight for anything beyond a last, last call. He wouldn’t fight for his wife when Trump attacked her, and called her ugly and savaged her mental health. He wouldn’t fight for his father when Trump defamed him as being involved in the Kennedy assassination.

He wouldn’t fight for Texans when a devastating storm ravaged the state. Instead, he went to Cancun. He wouldn’t fight back on January 6 because he incited the mob, from which he later hid in a closet.

Colin Allred took a different approach. He removed his jacket, and was ready to defend the House Chambers, alongside Congressman Ruben Gallego, a former enlisted Marine. They were ready to fight, and both men are ready to fight for you in the US Senate.

Ted Cruz is a world-class demagogue, and staggeringly dishonest. He is a chaos agent, a practitioner of a politics of selfishness who believes in nothing except his power. He has vandalized the Senate and our nation. He has desecrated our democracy, and should he serve alongside Trump again, he will do everything he is told whenever he is told no matter what he is told.

Ted Cruz will be a leading player in Trump’s plans to deploy the military against the American people and build deportation camps for millions. He will be a major player in destroying the US civil service and imposing a dogma of control over America’s women.

Ted Cruz’s tenure in the US Senate has been an abomination.

He has repeatedly disgraced and embarrassed his state during his tenure in office. More than any other person elected to office in Texas over the last 80 years, he is the living antithesis to the great Texan James Earl Rudder. We will soon be reminded of Rudder’s exploits and achievements in Europe when the free world’s heads of state gather to commemorate one of the most significant days in human history, which falls on June 6.

Democracy is not a system of government that can be sustained by electing the worst amongst us to positions of political power. Make no mistake around what Ted Cruz is. The worst. Texas can do better, and you should get into the fight.

Ted Cruz isn’t our destiny. He can be beaten, and Colin Allred can do it. He is getting less attention than Beto O’Rourke, but he is a much better candidate. Go, Colin, go!

You can donate to Colin’s campaign here. (link) https://secure.actblue.com/donate/colin-allred-for-senate-1

There’s a reason Republicans took control of the Harris County elections, and it is to manipulate votes, registrations, provisional ballots, and anything else they can think of to protect Cruz. Most major cities in Texas are Democratic, but Harris Country has the largest number of Democratic voters. Doing things like ruling that each county can have only one dropbox for mail ballots means that the rural counties with fewer than 1,000 residents get the same dropbox as an urban county with 3 million or so residents.

Republicans in Texas have turned election cheating into an art form. This election will be even worse.
