He is so dynamic.

(319,076 posts)Not-so-good geese forgot how to migrate and they create a lot of mess and bacteria and ugliness in our parks and ponds.
Eating urban geese is usually not illegal. The problem was created in the 1940s when Rod&Gun clubs were disbanded for W2. Before that there were no never-migrating populations. Thus they are a kind of invasive species.
Goose is delicious. But the flesh is often high in heavy metals.

(3,285 posts)As an avid birdwatcher, I know it's tough for people to carry on a conversation with me when there are birds around. It's even worse when you're with a few other birders - it takes 10 minutes to get through the "how are you doings".
His reaction is perfect.

(22,590 posts)Not just geese, but all kinds of birds - but the geese have a way of getting themselves noticed. I got stuck in traffic yesterday having to wait while a big flock of them slowly and nonchalantly waddled their way across the street.
The funny thing is, I don't know anyone who will admit to actually liking Canada Geese. (They're pretty, but their cobra chicken attitude and messy poop are turnoffs to a lot of people.) But drivers will ALWAYS sit and wait whenever the geese decide it's time to cross the road en masse. It cracks me up!

Thanks to Tim Walz for that bit of wholesome joy.

(9,354 posts)the word "flock." But if you had wanted, you could have used the word "Skein" - a skein of geese - because they were in the air (on the ground they would be a gaggle. I oncnce was delayed at a stoplight because a gaggle of geese was crossing the roa and no one wanted to interfere, thankfully.)
You are absolutely not wrong to use "flock" - I just happen to love those old collective nouns which go back to medieval times.

Fact 1:
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson: People who share a common sense of direction and community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Fact 2:
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
Fact 3:
When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the point position.
Lesson:
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership, as with geese, people are interdependent on each other's skill, capabilities and unique arrangement of gifts, talents or resources.
Fact 4:
The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Lesson:
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the productivity is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of others) is the quality of honking we seek.
Fact 5:
When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay until it dies or can fly again. Then they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
Lesson:
If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in dificult times as well as when we are strong.
Are you a goose?
I learned about this in a leadership program I attended years ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

(4,243 posts)I've been an avid goose watcher for about 10 years, they are so tightly knit as a family. Always wonder though. I rarely see father goose ever eat! He is always standing guard over his children and his female partner. Such sentient creatures.

(26,257 posts)always do, the sun still comes up in the morning (but it is getting darker earlier), the leaves for those of us in the northern parts of the USA are starting to fall, and the harvests have been going on, and/or starting to go full-swing.
Ahhhh, I love nature, I love the continuance of life in its full glory and I'm so happy to still be around and enjoy it, as well as so many of my friends and family.
I give thanks and blessings for all of us, who help to keep us sane and remembering the joys of live, vs. the doom and gloom that tRUMP the loser always seems to moan and gripe about, and tries to bring down so many of us. Don't listen to this POS. He's desperately trying to be relevant and knows that his moment in the sun is long gone and over w/.
It's time for the Kamala sunrise!

(17,617 posts)I have always felt that way. I love all the seasons and it amazes me that even at 75 years old I can get excited at the fall colors, the first snowfall, the birds at the park, the busy squirrels in my yard. The sun rise, the sunset. A spectacular thunderstorm and even a blizzard, though with climate change those are rare around these parts.

(26,257 posts)away from us, ha ha heh! I remind myself of the glory of nature, and the day-to-day comings of the seasons and remind myself to just go out and enjoy it. Life is indeed, too short to let the likes of djt and his thugs take away this very simple, yet profound experience from us.
