As in so many others. Because, what you say is definitely the only tactics the bullies we’re facing know. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

Having your center allows seeing advantages and acting when needed.

“We have all things, they only have contempt.” Give that mondo a test drive.

Kings, Royalty, Fascists, Authoritarians always trying to gain control over the people so they can exploit them. It's not enough that capitalism gives them an advantage, they want political control too. Revolutions rolled from country to country across Europe in the 1800s, France, northern and southern Europe, Italy, Germany, Poland, then into Russia, China. The powerful want it, money aligns with them and the people have to fight it. It's only now we're figuring it all out as a repetitive pattern. In August 1914 no one had any idea.

Sep 2024

In a capitalist economic arrangement*, unless one is capable of meaningfully placing their thumb onto the scale of political power, one has not played their hand to its logical end. Most founders thought giving the reins of power over to the general public would confuse and disturb the social norms.

*Capitalism is not a form of government, or a religion. It's not a philosophy or even a means of distributing the valuable produce of labor. It's a societal arrangement and jealously kept secret wherein those who have get more than those that need. They will do so with less effort or compromise as reward for their control of the marketplace. Their counterparts, however, give all their life's efforts for whatever the market will bear.

Fri Sep 20, 2024, 12:40 PM
Sep 2024

I walk around with my anxiety meter at a constant 9+ out of 10. This is why I don’t read the comments when someone posts good news about a poll as I know those comments will be full of “don’t get complacent!!l, “remember 2016!!l. It’s as if we can’t even enjoy a split second of hope without someone immediately adding in fear and doom and gloom. I do that to myself already.

I don’t think 2024 is anything like 2016. No one is taking this election for granted regardless of polls.

I wish we were allowed to celebrate good news and feel hope without the constant disclaimers. That only adds to the exhaustion and steals energy from that fight.

Fri Sep 20, 2024, 01:10 PM

is reduce your exposure to it all as much as you can. Check to see if he's dead. Quickly skim headlines if you read the news, or preferably look at post titles here instead. If something is of interest and not triggering, skim it (unless it is something positive, read those!).

It's good to have awareness of the situation, but after a quick superficial check of things, back off. Work on a hobby if you have one, or better still, find a new one and learn all about it. Spend time with pets if you have them. Know that you have zero control over anything that is happening, other than what you choose to do to GOTV.

I have found it helpful to greatly back off from the situation that MAGAts are purposely creating to bring chaos and uncertainty and despair to us. I have better things to do.

My two cents.

. . . That you are NOT ALONE.

I, too, struggle with depression and anxiety and those issues in themselves can drain your soul. Throw in all the crap that's happening in the world and it's just too much.

Remember, you are one person. It's great that you care and it proves that you have a loving soul. But you can step back if you need to from time to time in order to tend the quiet places within you.

(By the way, if I sound preachy it's because I'm telling myself all of this as I write to you.)

Whatever it takes to help you hang in there; do it. I prefer massive amounts of chocolate, to say-- weed-- because that's the only mind altering substance that I trust.

And speaking of humor, I re-watch Randy Rainbow and Brooklyn Nine-Nine clips all the time. Sometimes, I need to cry, so I turn to other Brooklyn Nine-Nine clips as well as this one scene from an episode of Scrubs that makes me tear up every single time.

In other moments, I try to inspire myself with thoughts of amazing people who kept faith despite losses. I think of Jimmy Carter, Stacey Abrams and Hillary Clinton. Of course, sometimes that only reminds me of how little I contribute in this world which brings on negative thoughts again, so don't be like me.

Basically, I just want to say that you are probably doing better than you give yourself credit for, and that you can set aside your burdens from time to time because there are plenty of other people who are carrying the load.

One day, it's too much for you, and someone else does the heavy lifting. On another day, you might be the one to offer solace and support. Remember that you are a part of something bigger than yourself. You may feel small and ineffectual. But together, we are mighty.

It is exhausting, this fight we are in. Tim Walz quote right down to your last line! We could have gone another 50 yrs and not found a better set of candidates to fight this knock-down drag out battle for DEMOCRACY that we find our country in. Yeah, we've only had a few months to work with, but we shall and ARE overcoming this shit-hole obstacle in our way. The nerve of them trying to turn our country into some theological dictatorship of some sort. That isn't FREEDOM.

The right wing has taken it toooooo far over the last 50+ years, and it's time to FINALLY push the
pendulum back and even the scale. Too many have suffered and many more are suffering every single day now. It is shameful that we live in the richest country in the world and have so many in need.

I remember a time when general elections came & went and then when it was all over, the Repubs and Democrats went about the people's business. When there was no ugliness on the floor of the HOUSE or SENATE nor in hearings. My sincere hope is that our country can find balance again. And I remember when the SC was not so political as it is now. Clarence Thomas was the first train wreck I witnessed. The soul of the SC has gradually disintegrated since 1992ish.

My mother was born in 1919 and she used to tell me "ReRe, this is the way it has always been all my life: the Repubs get in there and tear everything up, then the Democrats have to come in and fix everything."

It's time. It's gone on way too long now. I have faith that miracles are going to start happening throughout this country up until election day. One miracle occurred a day or so ago when I seen that Stevie Wonder was going to tour the country for the Harris/Walz ticket throughout October! We're going to do this. Knuckles to the bone. Up one side of this country and down the other.

We. Won't. Back. Down.
