walking away from the register after paying for my gas fill-up, I heard (but didn't see) someone coming behind me as I walked through the door. Figuring the person was also headed for the parking lot, I held the door open for him; but I turned around and saw that the 60-70ish man was wearing a tRump cap. So I let the door close on him. Made the bum open his own d&%$ door.
Was I rude? And do I give a flying rat's tush?

(2,937 posts)They are not fellow humans. They are anti-American, pro-racism, pro-rapists, brainless beings masquerading as humans.

(20,645 posts)The opposite actually. Putin is delighted with this kind of thinking on both sides.

(2,937 posts)I guess I was thinking about compassion in general, love for the country you were raised in, care and concern for neighbors and their children (and pets), and an educated public capable of critical thinking and wanting to protect the people they care about. Let's remove all that, what do we have left? We have a group of *people* who want a dictator to rule their lives and bodies, send your friends to camps or kill them, identify those neighbors as attempting to defend a democracy and killing them in their homes, forcing women to carry the children of rape or incest, removing the vote from not just women but everyone, shutting down our education system so no person is any smarter than Donnie (who is a moron). But yeah, let's call them humans. Hitler, Putin, they are humans. Great, let's not disparage them.
Sorry. I just get fed up. Will be so glad when Donnie is thrown in the trash bin with the rest of his cronies this November.

It's like slamming the door on a blind person or any other person with a disability.

(114,615 posts)That guy had never done anything to you except advertise that he was easily fooled and /or a jerk and should be avoided, something that I regard a public service by such people.
Of course, if you knew the guy and inew him to be a total arse to you and everyone around you, then I'm sure even Miss Manners and Emily Post could be persuaded to look the other way for the duration.
That's my story and I'm stickng to it.

Punishing your dog for doing something wrong doesn't work unless the dog knows why.
If he does know why, he now tells all his buddies about how a Kamala lover slammed the door in his face.
Should we not lead by example?

(31,308 posts)let's face it, if you were wearing a Kamala shirt or cap he probably would have shoved you through the glass.
on my long wish list for changes to be made once Kamala is president and has majorities in both houses is that there will be a return to civility in this country.

(5,011 posts)I hear ya, I feel ya, god knows I have wished much worse upon these people than failing to hold a door open for them----
but Kamala crossing the stage to shake hands with the orange ogre
has rather inspired me, beyond numerous instructions on this or other sites,
that we ARE in fact 'better than these people',
and should act like it.
So, one possible alternative to what you did,
would be to hold the door open for him,
while telling him that 'Kamala Harris wants to help improve your life'
That was me, trying to be a 'better man'--
truth be told, my initial reaction would be similar to yours,
but Kamala Harris is making me feel 'guilt' for some of my extreme attitudes.
He was an 'old man' after all.
My own father, who became a staunch Democratic voter from 1964 onwards,
said to me just before his death at the age of 91,
"I think I may become a conservative" !!!
(He was troubled by the first impeachment of Trump, but I think he had little command of the facts of the case.)
I just told him "you better not", but he died before the 2020 election.
We should make some allowance for age, and respect if not agree with our elders--
and treat them with some compassion, as the brain slows down when you get older.
My own is, but not enough to make me vote for a Republican....
On the bright side, many polls say that voters "65 and older" are now supporting more Democrats than Republicans
(and with Social Security and Medicare being targeted by Republicans, our seniors are finally getting the message!)
