MSNBCs Stephanie Ruhle stuffs NYT columnist in a locker ... and Trump eruptsNew York Times columnist Bret Stephens cant understand why Americans could simply reach the conclusion that Donald Trump who orchestrated an attempted coup at the Capitol, quarterbacked a fake electors scheme, strong-armed state officials to conjure up fake votes, was convicted of 34 felonies, is an adjudicated rapist, and promotes racism and misogyny is unfit for office.
Instead, Stephens said on HBOs Real Time, that he still needs to know more about Vice President Kamala Harris policies and insisted that the Democratic nominee sit down for a real interview with, say, journalists the the New York Times, who, of course, often spent the three years of Harris vice presidency devaluing her contributions to the current administration.
The Times, youll recall, launched the same no-interview criticism at President Joe Biden, who rebuffed the newspaper because of its sane-washing of Trump
Shes running against Trump, Ruhle told Stephens, host Bill Maher and the audience. We have two choices. And so there are some things you might not know her answer to, and in 2024, unlike 2016 for a lot of the American people, we know exactly what Trump will do who he is and the kind of threat he is to democracy.
snip
For the last two weeks, Ive been going on and on, like, I cant figure out where ... informed undecided voters are, Ruhle said. Like, whos the person who has a list on their refrigerator of, like, Well, she said this, and he said ... Im, like, who is this person? And then I open the New York Times three days ago and its you."

He made the mistake of appearing on MSNBC (last time I saw him on that network) with Anand Giridharadas to whom Stephens decided to white-splain America. Giridharadas replied with something like "You don't have to explain America to me. I'm an American. I was born here. Like many people I just happen not to agree with you. We just have different opinions on what is best for America."
I'm pissed I can't find the video. But rest assured, Stephens knows all about Harris' policy positions at this point. If he doesn't, he should be fired. So glad Stephanie called him out.
On edit: Link below from Jmb 4 Harris-Walz. Bret starts setting himself up at about 4 mins. Anand lowers the boom at about 5 mins. Clearly I didn't get the smackdown verbatim.

(10,489 posts)She was smart & funny. She made the show.
I still can't understand why Bill Maher called her 2025 comment, a "Bull $h1t talking point." when I thought she was correct.
Am I missing something? What does Maher know, that Ruhle & I don't know?
One last note: Pendejo45 calling her a "Dumb as a rock", bimbo, is pure Pendejo45 misogyny.
We all know if Pendeo45 is complaining, then Stephanie's comment struck a really loud chord.
I haven't seen this much reporting about RealTime in a long time.

(6,575 posts)And its not relatively minor issues. Maher is a sexist and a bigot. He pushes anti-vax bs, supports DeSantis LGBTQ and book bans and regularly attacks the left with right wing talking points. And I refuse to be a sycophantic apologist for a rich, privileged white male TV celebrity who thinks hes right about everything.
BTW Maher is not big time pro-Harris and never has been:

What did SR say about Project 2025?

(10,489 posts)I will use quotes for actual statements
Bret Stephen: "Look most Americans realize that here we are, Joe Biden is the President of the United States. Kamala Harris is likely the next President of the United States. But the reason Trump has an enduring appeal on so many Americans is so many of us in the media, want to treat him, right, as absolutely beyond the pale. And you know how Trump supporters respond? By saying oh, yea, he's beyond the pale, I'm going to vote for him. We have done nothing but help Trump for the last 8 years."
Bill Maher: "So, that's how we should organize our political views, by what the idiots will do? And he is beyond the pale on this rhetoric question. I mean they both have things to say about the other person that are pretty big. That's politics, it's always done. There is only 1 side. There should be no false equivalency here, that uses the kind of rhetoric that they use. Like I remember Trumps, here it is dug it up, the tough people. I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military. And then he brings up the bikers, I have support of the bikers. Right, I think if you have the military and the police, I don't know if we're going to need the bikers, but OK."
"I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough until the Democrats go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad.
This is Heritage Foundation President, that's like the number 1 Republican "
Stephanie Ruhle: "The King of Project 2025"
Bill Maher: "Yea, whoa, that's kind of a bull $h1t talking point 2025, but we don't have to go there now."
************************************************************
What am I missing here?
Stephanie is correct, the President of the Heritage Foundation is the "King" of Project 2025, they wrote and Trump will be implementing it. I say it's pretty much the Republican Platform.

But, the "undecideds" big concern w Kamala is not knowing her plans?
We can't even begin to count the number of times Trump has pulled the "we have a plan coming out soon to address that" gambit w absolutely no follow up.

(120 posts)that wanting to know more about her "policies" is just a modern day racist and misogynist dog whistle. The NYT and its ilk are no longer a credible source of information, so why should she give them an interview? My suggestion is to offer college senior journalism students the chance to interview. They would actually ask better questions.
TBF
(35,303 posts)they did a feature on "undecided" voters which was laughable, and most of us told them so in their comment sections. You'd have to live under a rock to not know who Trump is. People are voting for him for one or two reasons - they are racist, misogynist low-lifes like him, or they are greedy uber-rich people who like his tax breaks (or both). That's it. Everyone else would rather vote for anyone else, and Kamala is actually not only a functioning human, but obviously very capable of running the country. "Need to know more about her policies" - I call BS on that. He's a Trump voter, and he's full of himself.

(1,738 posts)They're ashamed to say either, or don't want to be made fun of. What's likely the most significant election in decades, just over a month out, everything's in the news, or on the web. No one hasn't seen it, unless they are deliberately avoiding seeing anything about Harris.
Sorry. This isn't 1974, when all we had was the TV and newspapers, with the occasional person who read Time magazine. Information is easy to find. It's out there, free. There are entire generations that grew up with the Internet.
Any people keep pushing Maher, Stephanie whoever, Ari whoever, Rachel whoever, as if these people are on our side. They are not. They are on the side of the people who pay their salaries. They flip and flop, say whatever it takes to keep people watching their shows, or reading their articles.
They are like Dick Cheney, who claims he'll vote for Harris, but will likely just pull that big R handle. He's only saying these things because it suits his political future. Same with Liz, same with that Adam guy who spoke at the convention. And, yet, they're still Republicans, they still support the party, which went off the rails due in part to people like the big Dick.
FUCK THEM ALL.
