https://dnyuz.com/2024/09/23/in-a-first-young-men-are-more-religious-than-young-women/Grace Church, a Southern Baptist congregation, has not made a conscious effort to attract young men. It is an unremarkable size, and is in many ways an ordinary evangelical church. Yet its leaders have noticed for several years now that young men outnumber young women in their pews. When the church opened a small outpost in the nearby town of Robinson last year, 12 of the 16 young people regularly attending were men.

The dynamics at Grace are a dramatic example of an emerging truth: For the first time in modern American history, young men are now more religious than their female peers. They attend services more often and are more likely to identify as religious.

Arguments in other Christian institutions about womens roles have been raging for decades. Some churches have cracked down in recent years on practices like women speaking from the pulpit. The theology of complementarianism, which asserts that men and women have some separate roles in marriage and church leadership, is resurgent. And many of these same churches are beginning to speak more openly about their conservative political convictions.
Young women, it seems, are moving past the debates and out the church doors.
About two-thirds of women ages 18 to 29 say that most churches and religious congregations do not treat men and women equally, the Survey Center on American Life found.
Young women are asking more questions than their forebears, said Beth Allison Barr, an historian at Baylor. Her book The Making of Biblical Womanhood: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel Truth was a surprise best seller in 2021, sparking widespread conversations in conservative evangelical circles.

A life under the thumb of male patriarchy? Most young women are saying no thanks to that.

(3,214 posts)...but there's definitely a subculture of young men, particularly in Catholicism--and especially in the conservative-to-radtrad factions--where the incel (or, to coin a phrase, incel-adjacent) mentality is too obvious to be ignored. You find them predominantly online; however, most of the larger cities have an otherwise defunct parish that has been renovated to cater to the radtrad Latin Mass crowd, and those parishes tend to attract some pretty maladjusted, scruple-obsessed young male radtrads.
Some in the far-right media have noticed these trends and they are attempting to cater to the traddier-than-thou incels. The OAN network seems to be particularly interested in these topics lately.

(2,769 posts)The hatred many of these churches and denominations have for women, especially those of a dominionist bent, is attracting the woman-hating men.

(360 posts)I was 12 years old and I informed my mother I was not going to church ever again. I was not going to have a baptist (intentional lower case) preacher man try the to make me feel inferior to men any more. My dad backed me up. Needless to say, it made for a little tension in the home for a while.
I did get in trouble occasionally when preacher man came for Sunday dinner (that's lunch in the south). I do remember asking preacher man if Caine and Able had sex with their mother as there were no other females to procreate with.
Oh well, grounded again!

Both our sons attended Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. Carthage belongs to the CCIW athletic conference - College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Another member of the CCIW is Wheaton College, which is deeply and profoundly fundamental. Dancing was not allowed there until the late 1990s.
On its home pages, it states flat out that they believe that Adam and Eve are the founding parents of the whole human race. Surprisingly, they have a very large biology/medical science department.
I often fantasized about asking some of the biology professors to explain how the whole human race could have come from just Adam and Eve without some variety of incest, be it with their mother or sister(s) if there were some. There was no one else to mate with but Eve if she was the only female. What a bunch of malarkey.
I would have loved to hear their answers.

(9,148 posts)According to the silly tales made up by primitive Middle Eastern goatherders, the all-powerful sky wizard takes a male primate form (just like humans on one little planet amongst trillions -- what an incredible coincidence!), and so is his magical carpenter "son." That makes Penis-Havers more important than Vagina-Havers! Gee, how convenient!

(9,148 posts)The women-hating Big Three monotheisms need to be tossed on the dustheap of history where they belong. They are poison.
I hope more and more women abandon ship. Women are the ones who do the vast majority of the dirty work in U.S. churches -- the menial stuff that keeps them running. I don't see many men stepping up to do things like clean the church basement kitchen after a potluck or staff the childcare during services and things like that. Hopefully the trend of churches closing nationwide will accelerate.

(27,406 posts)No friggin way and I going back to be second class and under the thumb of a man! And you have to wonder if these churches are recruiting grounds for the proud boys and those other men with small penises groups who are anti woman not wanting to admit they are gay!
My first husband was that type of guy who I divorced and now happily married for over 35 years to a man who treats me equally!

He identifies as a Christian, and wears a very large crucifix around his neck.
His parents think this happened when he went to off to college last fall. He attends the University of North Dakota.
