Marc Elias and Democracy Docket are private entities that are working to make sure that MAGA and Trump do not subvert the upcoming election. -- https://www.democracydocket.com ---MAGA and Trump are already at work trying to corrupt the election.
But what is the government doing to protect election integrity? What is the DOJ doing to work with States and Locals to ensure lawful elections? Does Marc Elias and Democracy Docket consult with DOJ or other government agencies?
It seems to me that the Feds should be working with States and Localities (and also private actors like Marc Elias and Democracy Docket) to protect our election integrity.
We need more focus on this issue NOW. It would be a mistake to leave this issue alone and then wake up November 6th to find that the election is contested and votes are not being counted and certified.
We need this issue to be talked about much more in the media and amongst Democrats. Right now the MAGA criminals are operating pretty much under cover of darkness. We need to shine a lot of light on their illegal attempts to corrupt the election results.

(24,098 posts)Just because youre not aware of all the efforts to protect the election doesnt mean there isnt enough focus on it. The issue isnt being left alone.
I get emails daily from Democracy Docket on all the suits they have filed and all the steps they are taking to prevent shenanigans.
Elias now works for the Harris campaign, so thats another important step.
The CREW report details all the steps already taken, and all the tools in place for this year.
I encourage you to read it.

(1,492 posts)I am paying attention to the issue. My point is that there needs to be much more public discussion about this. I am well aware of Democracy Docket and CREW. Many people are not, and that is my point. The efforts of Marc Elias, Democracy Docket and CREW need to be amplified and heard by a larger number of people and voters. Just because people here such as yourself are aware of these efforts does not mean that the issue is getting enough media exposure to the general population. People here at DU are going to be more informed than the general population. We need to reach more people and hear more about this issue in the media. That is my point.

(24,098 posts)If you figure out how to get the media to pay the right amount of attention to an issue you care about, please share with us, so we can make them cover the stuff we want.
(For the record, Rachel devoted almost an entire show to the CREW report when it came out this summer- maybe you missed it?)
The hard work now being done to protect the election will continue regardless of the medias attention or how many of the general public know about it. Outside of the medias vision work is under way to inform voters of their rights, how to obtain mail in ballots, how to make sure the ballot is filled out correctly so it will be counted, etc.
Thats what matters, not whether the media notices.

(1,492 posts)Rachel is one of the few media figures that has been covering this stuff. We need more coverage and also more discussion on forums like DU. Also, your average voter has not heard about CREW much less the capacity to read a 112 page document. So that is a message problem. I am retired and have an undergrad background in political science and I will still have to carve out time and energy to read that CREW document (and I will read it.). Most people aren't able to, so we need to have clearer and simpler messages about this subject, including discussion here on DU. Part of why I am posting about this issue is again, it is not getting enough general attention outside of experts, policy wonks, and the occasional media figures like Rachel Maddow. I will repeat my point- we need to have much more awareness and discussion about this issue. The general population needs to be aware of this. We can not leave democracy just to the wonks and experts. People in the general public need to be aware of this issue.

(24,098 posts)Ive probably posted the link to the CREW report several dozen times here on DU since the report came out.
But I ask again, what difference does it make if the general public doesnt know about election protection efforts, but the work goes on anyway?
The only difference I can see is folks will worry less- maybe knowing more will reduce their stress level. But I dont see it making a difference in the outcome or integrity of the election.
P.S. although lengthy, the CREW report is very well organized- if you just want to know about existing election protection laws in the swing states, just tap on the table of contents to jump to that section for each state. If you want to know what states have done previously to defeat attempts at blocking certification (all of which succeeded in defeating the obstructionists), just click on that section.
I hope you find the report as interesting and reassuring as I did.

(1,492 posts)Thanks for posting the CREW document. I will read it when I am able to carve out some time. I just worry that some people might be taken by surprise by what might likely happen after Election Day. I mean things might go smoothly but I am skeptical. Forewarned is forearmed. In a democracy we need to make the general public as well informed as possible. I am glad that Democracy Docket and CREW are doing what they are doing. I just think more people need to be aware of it. Anyway thanks for responding.
