I got dinged once for posting something that I didn't think was at all political in the DU Lounge Forum, so I'm being extra careful here.
The purpose of sharing this video is mostly fun. Who doesn't like learning new things? All the same, though, pay some attention to the comments section. Only one person that I noted thus far has made mention of ". . . what one politician says. . ."; but over and over again, posters are pointedly referring to themselves as "Childless Cat Ladies" or "Childless Cat Daddies".
Looks like somebody woke a political "sleeping cat" and turned it into a "grumpy cat". If that many people are showing their ruffled hackles* in a completely non-political social media post, you can imagine how that might translate into actual voter choices.
* Research indicates that dogs have hackles, not cats. Feel free to sue.

(1,406 posts)I name all my pets after gods and goddesses, so Minnie is named after Mineola, goddess of medicine and magic. (Im an RN.)
She was so scared when my Saints found her that she didnt purr for a long time. Now shes so dedicated to me that she purrs whenever she even sees me. So loving.
And to confirm one of the fun facts in the video clip, shes never been sick.
Thank you so much, Collimator, for posting this video. Minnie watched it with me, snuggled by my side.

(2,118 posts)I'm desperately allergic to cats myself. So, naturally, they lurve me!
Before facing the seriousness of my allergy*, I used to fantasize about have three black cats named Athena, Artemis and Aphrodite.
Glad that you liked the video. The composer of it didn't mention the statistics behind finding a truly all black cat in Europe. Thanks to the different persecutions put in motion by the Catholic Church, all black animals like cats and dogs were often killed.
Having a small patch or even a few strands of white fur could often spare an animal's life. This "culling" thus affected the gene pool, favoring animals with less than full black coats. (My apologies if you already knew this. I like collecting odd facts.)
* Broke out in hives once after carrying a rug from a cat home for all of 15 seconds.

Sorry about your allergy. It must be really difficult. 🤧

(2,118 posts)I just have to avoid cats and only admire them from afar. It means that I can't hang out with some people, but it's okay.
Now, my bee allergy can kill me. And my allergy to certain antibiotics can complicate my medical care.
Happily, I can handle dogs and chocolate. So, life has its compensations.
Oh, and by the way, I once had to write an abstract for a science article that detailed research into how WWII affected cat coat distribution in certain European countries. I ended the abstract by quipping, "Now we have something else to blame Hitler for."

(1,406 posts)I say that from the perspective of a life-long author and writer of everything from healthcare management articles, doctoral data research, and now my fave writing medical-legal thriller novels based on actual experience.
Other than the science abstract you mentioned, do you write for publications or author books? I hope so, bc Id love to read more of your works. Seriously, you are an excellent wordsmith!!

I do enjoy posting on this and other forums. Sometimes I write to work through my own thoughts and emotions. Other times, I hope to add to the public discourse and offer a few useful talking points for those folks engaging with family and friends face to face.

(2,118 posts)I have to admit that it unnerves me somewhat that those people own an actual panther. She is undeniably beautiful, of course.

(1,631 posts)I guess they have them in Russia which is where that Youtube is from. There are other Russian Youtubers who document life with big cats who they have as family members. One is a mountain lion/cougar. Personally, I find it insane, kind of like having a pet bear or alligator, but the videos are fascinating to watch.

(13,879 posts)too. I like my cats alittle more domesticated

(1,631 posts)Big cats scare the hell out of me. I mean, really, than can eat you. The people with the cougar (also Russian) sleep with her. I think her name is Messi. Messi gets all excited when dad comes home from work, just like a dog, lol. I think all of these people live in Siberia.
