Trump's obsession with Harris and McDonald's gets even creepier

With 40 days left in the election cycle, Donald Trump appears to be focused at least as much on Kamala Harris' fast food experience as any other issue.

With 40 days left in the election cycle, Trump appears to have one true obsession, which he now focuses on every day: Kamala Harris' work experience at McDonald's while in college.

Even by Trump standards, this has become rather creepy.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/donald-trump-kamala-harris-mcdonalds-obsession-creepy-election-2024-rcna172701

Donald Trump’s latest campaign event in North Carolina — a state the former president has focused considerable attention on lately — was ostensibly supposed to focus on manufacturing and job creation. But while the Republican did have a few things to say about his intended topic, he also strayed from his script to talk about one of his favorite subjects.

Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump declared, “never worked at McDonald’s. It was a fake story. It was a fake story; the press now refuses to write it because it’s so, you know, this is a simple one. She said she worked at McDonald’s and she didn’t. ... It was a lie. She never worked at McDonald’s over the hot french fries.”

The GOP candidate quickly added that he plans to go to a McDonald’s “in two weeks” — it’s always “two weeks,” isn’t it? — and he intends to “work the french fries.” Trump concluded, “I will have worked longer and harder at McDonald’s than she did if I do that even for half an hour.”

If the rhetoric seemed at all familiar, it’s because Trump has been obsessed to an unhealthy degree with the vice president having worked at McDonald’s as a college student.......

In other words, with fewer than six weeks before Election Day, the Republican nominee appears to be focused at least as much on this issue as anything else.

That, of course, is utterly bonkers, in part because there’s literally no evidence that Harris lied, in part because Trump hasn’t even tried to substantiate his attack with anything other than repetition, and in part because his obsession isn’t likely to move the electoral needle.

The broader circumstances, meanwhile, continue to be noteworthy. The Democratic nominee has been involved in public service for decades, working as a prosecutor, a state attorney general, a U.S. senator, and a vice president. If the GOP candidate and his team are eager to scrutinize her record, there should be plenty of accurate things to choose from.

So why is it that Trump has relied so heavily on made-up nonsense? If Harris is as bad as her partisan critics claim, why can’t Trump simply tell the truth and shift his focus away from her college-era fast-food experience?

But I love Trump's weird fixation on her fast food job 40 years ago.

If I were Kamala. I'd challenge Trump to have a McDonald's French fry cook-off. They both get 1/2 hr. instruction on the job requirements. Let's see who really executes the job, in real time. Micky D's would probably love the marketing aspects of this event..

Distraction.

Her response in the video was nice. Some people working at McD's are doing the best they can with what they got. It may not be glamorous work but it's respectable and too much discussion could be interpreted as demeaning.

And Trump is NOT setting foot inside a McDonalds to do fries for 30 seconds, let alone 30 minutes.

Why say he's going to do it in a week or two weeks? By then the McDonalds attack will have fallen flat and it will be a new attack, Trump won't ever work at McDonalds. If he was worth a shit, he'd have gone there right after that rally. Just show up, that moment, sight unseen and say im gonna work here.

It's all a facade with this guy, though everyone here knows this.

I cannot think of one reason I would hire a 77-year-old man with no work ethic. I already have a 22-year-old and a 19-year-old with no work ethic, and Trump’s tiny fingers couldn’t lift a bundle of newspapers anyway.

he definitely has something going on, cognitively speaking, that makes him obsess about a particular, often demeaning, action.

Just throwing this out there, but I've noticed it's often when it's something demeaning (in his eyes--aka: working at McDonald's) about someone who is intellectually superior to him. Of course he would never admit feeling inferior, (it's all subconscious anyway) to Kamala Harris. But, she gets under his skin BIG-TIME!!

To him, it isn't about the election when he does this, he just wants to knock her down a notch and it pisses him off that he can't find a picture with her Mickey-D hat on, pulling fries out of a grease vat.

The Beacon, which obtained a one-page law-school-era resume of Harris’ which leaves out her summer-long stint where she “did fries,” as she put it in an interview with Drew Barrymore, suggested Harris may have fabricated the work experience in an attempt to make herself more relatable to working-class voters.

I was one. I was also a server in diners while my husband finished law school and started his career. There is no way I can prove it. I never earned enough that we filed taxes. We ate day old food from the supermarket. Maybe these days, workers leave a trace, but there is no way I can prove I worked at the BG Restaurant in Chicago or Lums near UCLA or even Mrs Edward’s Coffee Shop in San Francisco. Who would remember me? But I do have proof that Donald was not top of his class at U Penn if he wants that.
