She has the perfect background for politics, majoring in political science/economics at Boston University, interning for Ted Kennedy, responsible positions in start-ups serving the community, working for a presidential campaign before running for office herself. But that doesn't mean a person has to the same thing forever!

For the most part, US senators are the most milquetoast, establishment, intransigent MFers you'll never meet. That particular bicameral chamber could really use a good shaking by the scruff of the neck. BAD PUPPY!

and distancing herself from the squad to gain establishment acceptance. Compare her to someone like Rashida Tlaib who doesn't give a shit and has not moved from her positions, at all. I've thought AOC is angling for speaker but I could also see run for mayor of NYC because she's always commenting on NYC politics. The thing is, she could spend her entire career in congress and get a huge pension so I don't think she'd give up that possibility for a couple of terms as mayor.

It's not a job for anyone who wants to be popular. You have to be brilliant at horse trading and social media doesn't factor into it. I don't really see it suited to her skill set. How do you figure?

It's not a role you just get for power or prestige. You see how badly that works out for the Republicans!

* given her previous words wherein she seriously pondered leaving politics because it wasn't what she expected it to be. Political work is hard, it's dirty, it's ugly. Also, I do not believe she is moderate enough to win a national election. National elections and national primaries are won from the center. The politics and policies and positions that do well in extremely blue pockets of a generally blue northeastern state don't always go over so well in the (so-called) flyover states. She may try for the nomination (as many others have done) but ultimately, I believe it will be a failed effort.

She is learning the ropes the right way, too--slowly, forgetting no lessons learned along the way, and making few missteps.

If she wants to go for Schumer's seat when he retires, or Gillibrand's seat (any time she wants to retire is not too soon for me), I think she is ready. The Oval Office is a different story, but down the road a decade or two, it could happen. She will have to start building her alliances soon, and make the right ones. Align with sharp House members who may harbor similar ambitions (Swalwell, Jeffries, e.g.) and distance herself from useless, cumbersome alliances that displease the masses, (DSA, Squad, etc.). I think she is on solid enough ground now to do that--IF she wants to. Or, she could stick around and go for the Speaker's chair, although that might require more patience than she'd want to muster. I wouldn't blame her for that. Jeffries could be around for a good long while if all goes well. If she's smart enough to not flame out too soon, I think many avenues are hers to choose from. She definitely has more smarts than most of her fellow House members. That is no guarantee, though. To make optimum use of them, you have to use them wisely as well.

so she'll be in the Senate for at least another 6 years. When she ran for re-election in 18, she won by the highest percentage of any democrat running statewide that year, 72.2%, as well as higher than any democratic party Senator running for re-election in the country. She's only 57 years old so expect her to be in the Senate for a long time to come.

Chuck Schumer won re-election in 22 so his current term isn't up until 28. He's 73 now and will be 77 next time. So he may be there until at least 34.

She has to work her way through the party system in the House which is pretty grueling and takes years. She could run for Senate at some point, sure, but running statewide is quite different than running in a safe district. I’m sure Shumer has someone in mind to take his place should he retire before he passes on and I’m not sure it’s her. It’s probably not at this point.

She’s young so she has time to make these things happen but the real sticking point is making sure Piss Wig doesn’t win THIS year. Otherwise I’m not sure any of this matters.

I don’t think any Republican can be allowed to take office any time soon. They all have the same goal in mind.

She's a rising star, but I won't speculate.

They'll be nothing wrong with her staying in the house for a time, perhaps in a leadership role; committee chairman, etc.
