It's the economy, stupid

This refrain is often quoted during each Presidential election cycle. Most everyone emphasizes the "economy" part, I'd like to emphasize the "stupid" part of the saying.

The economy does not react like a speed boat, but rather like a battleship. It takes time to turn around, one way or the other. One would have to be stupid to think the economy changes on inauguration day. It did not turn off and on like a light switch on January 20th, 2017, or January 20th, 2021. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that it takes at least18 months to 2 years for any policy or legislation to work its way through our large and complex economy. As a result, the first 2 years of the Trump economy was really the residual effect of the Obama-Biden economy. It takes a year to legislate changes to tax policy, for example and another year to work its way through.

The economy that was pretty strong before the pandemic, was actually a result of the Obama-Biden administration.

Let's all agree the worldwide pandemic distorted any judgment on the economy. It seems most people, especially the MAGAts, give Trump a pass of the double-digit unemployment and recession at the end of his administration. By the same token, the Biden-Harris administration certainly was not responsible for the subsequent spike in inflation coming out of the pandemic. Biden didn't have anything to do with the inflation in Europe or Asia. That event was a result of the broken supply chain, pent-up demand and lack of inventory. All those issues were because no one could stock up without knowing exactly when the pandemic would be over.

A smart person would judge how a Presidential Administration handled the worldwide crisis. America's economy. following the pandemic, is the envy of the world. Strong GDP, stock market, low unemployment and declining inflation rates. Trump handled the pandemic like a moron. He didn't even follow his own scientists' recommendations, which almost cost him his life. And, of course, we all remember his press conferences where he wanted his experts to experiment with injecting disinfectant.

Anyone who thinks that Trump would be better than Harris at handling the American economy, or another health crisis really is "stupid".
