Had a run it with the town magat today.

I have a friend who owns a landscaping business. His company was doing work down the street so I wandered down to talk to my buddy. It's a landscaping business and most of his employees are immigrants. He does verify they are here legally and part of their employment is working on becoming a citizen. He pays good wages with some benefits (not as good as he would like), but he is doing the best he can for his workers.

We are talking and up rolls the town magat. He walks up to us and starts bitching about immigrants taking all of our jobs. My friend asks him if he has a job now, he replies with "no, an immigrant took it from me." I asked him where he used to work and he wouldn't say, so he's just blowing smoke.

My friends tells him he can apply at his business and tells him about the work and pay. Work starts at 6am and goes to sunset in the summer. Anything over 40 hours is OT a time and a half. Six day a week in summer, and the work is hard.
Magat says no way he would do that, it is beneath him.

My friend says " so the immigrants are not taking your jobs, are they?" Magat gets pissed and calls us stupid and uneducated (Hmmm, my PhD in computer science must be worthless), tells us to FO and leaves.

Why is it when you corner a conservative in a discussion they resort to personal insults? I've experienced it so many times...

He was on a moving job with us and kept talking about how great the convicted felon is! The lady we were working with asked him to not talk politics. He kept doing it and the lead called the manager and told her what happened. She showed up at the job and told him he could leave early. And that night sent out an email saying he was asked to leave the company. I was so glad. He was very disrespectful to the rest of us who were packing up a lady for a move to a senior community. And our company is a woman owned business and he kept making cracks about women not being hard workers!

A. He doesn’t have a job (and very likely hasn’t for some time.
B. The jobs they are doing are the ones ‘muricans won’t do.
C. A high paying, easy job is not your birthright asshole.
D. What kind of assistance is he getting to live on while not working? Unemployment? Social security? Or just letting his wife support him?

Help wanted ads are everywhere here, mostly for jobs that immigrants would be qualified to do. I see them working on construction crews, landscaping, in hotels, restaurants. We had quite an influx of them here for a while, thanks to Texas governor Greg Abbott and his bus caravans, and in this big, liberal, northern city, most of them found housing, and are supporting themselves with jobs, while businesses still seem to be short of the workers they need.

He knows full well that immigrants are working at low end jobs; the kind he would never take. Having him admit it was a total humiliation for him, and basically pulled the rug out from under him. So he got his nose rubbed in his stupidity.
Nothing pisses an arrogant, hate-filled, asshole off more than being shown just how stupid he is.
It's too bad. If he doesn't like feeling that way, he should adjust his attitude so he isn't vulnerable to being called out for stupidity.

Amarillo (about as conservative a place as any) a half century ago I worked at the local factory slaughterhouse because it was the only place that paid above minimum wage ($2/hr) for someone without education or connections. There were two starting groups a week. Most Americans quit the first week, many the first day. I stayed a year and a half. I only know one other American who stayed almost as long without becoming a foreman. Very few Americans, Black or White, lasted a month. And failing at the slaughterhouse meant moving several hundred miles away to seek decent employment. Almost all of the line workers were Viet Namese or Laotians (Viet Nam had just fallen) or Mexican immigrants.
It isn't that young Americans can't do these jobs, most young Americans won't do these jobs. Of course few people over 50 can cut it in a slaughterhouse.

The only thing that I could get paying better than minimum wage. We had two crews, the kill floor was all Amish, up front in the boning section it was all regular Americans. I learned the biz at a young age and it was my only marketable skill for a few years. I worked in a plant in AZ that was over half Hispanic, a good many of them illegals. But they’d do the shit work that other ‘muricans wouldn’t. I also picked apples in WA state a couple seasons and was definitely in the minority being white. Seems like agriculture depends on immigrants, same as landscaping. These are all hard jobs where your output is obvious. You’re not going to last if you are a slacker.

About this immigrant hate and lies about job stealing is that most business owners know it's a lie. City, county and state officials, even in the reddest of states, knows it's a lie.
Farm owners know that this mass deportation nonsense would, very literally, bankrupt them. General contractors know it would bankrupt them.
The impact on some communities would be devastating.
From an economics perspective, way more significant than anything else, it would destroy multiple sectors of our economy and be like dropping a nuclear bomb on our food supply chain.
The whole mass deportation proposal has largely gone under reported in my opinion given the seriousness and scope of its impact.
