Don Calloway was on MSNBC this morning. He said the MAGAts know exactly what they're doing when the mispronounce Kamala as "ka.MA.la".

There was a WWE wrestler by that name. His name was pronounced "ka.MA.la". He was also a scary but buffoonish character. From his Wiki page:

James Arthur Harris (May 28, 1950 – August 9, 2020), better known by his ring name Kamala, was an American professional wrestler. Nicknamed "The Ugandan Giant", Kamala portrayed a fearsome and simpleminded Ugandan.

Calloway's posit seems reasonable to me.

As I remember, this character made his way through several pro wrestling federations.

7. A pretty obscure reference for most people

It's a simple matter of mispronouncing to be disrespectful. It isn't and doesn't need to be more complicated than that. Like Republicans saying "Democrat Party" instead of "Democratic Party".

Some people do it innocently. I have a sister who is all in for Harris, but frequently bumbles over "Kamala", pronouncing it wrong, then right, and chiding herself. I've seen pro-Harris people on TV mispronounce Kamala with no sign of being aware of their mistake.
