Who exactly is telling Trump that tariffs (of all things) are the way to make the US wealthy?

It's a terrible idea that will raise inflation, harm consumers, and destroy our own export markets when the targets retaliate. Even a cursory reading of a 10th grade US history book shows that trade barriers and tariffs usually aren't great - although I think they can be used selectively, if carefully, to create/sustain a fledgling industry that's important in a country.

But WHO is telling this lie to Trump? Who would benefit from this? Why are they trying to make tariffs a thing? All the economists I've seen say it would be a terrible idea and not help anyone.

And Trump is an idiot who wouldn't have this idea himself. He wouldn't know a tariff from his own taint. so who exactly is giving him this terrible talking point/"idea"?

Tariffs equate to attacks on non-American products. It is another smoke screen for pushing nationalism.

don't want to upset the apple cart of our glorious late stage capitalism with a ruinous trade war. And those are the people with actual power. Can't they grab those racist assholes by the scruff and remind them of who is actually in charge? This is madness.

One: it plays up the Trump campaign's strategy to stoke fear of foreigners and gaslight people into believing that only Trump can keep "us" safe - us being white nationalists and their enablers.

Two: the current Republican Party doesn't want government to work. This is the key point. They WANT to destroy government and our infrastructure so that they can become dictators. This is how dictators grab power, through chaos.

If Trump tanks the economy - and he will if he gets the chance - he'll say that liberals caused it and now he has to enact martial law. Every disaster becomes another opportunity to grab more power.

To your final question- Trump himself is a puppet. He says what they tell him to say. If he gets elected I suspect he won't last long. Vance will be installed and martial law declared soon after as the plan goes into play.

It's exactly the same idea as "Mexico will pay for the wall." It's Trump's toddler thought pattern - he wants something to be true so it must be true. And sharpie lines can affect hurricanes. And so on.

It's either a Trump original idea, or it's an idea from from some conspiracy theorist........these are the sources of a stable genius..
