(22,882 posts)During WWII, Asian stereotypes that we now recognize as very offensive were all over the place in this country. In political cartoons, advertising, you name it.
Some of it hung on for quite a while, too. I can't stand to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's (which came out in 1961) because of a character played in yellow face by Mickey Rooney that wasn't even in the damned book.
Of course, Asian stereotypes are still around, unfortunately, but they aren't as hideously blatant as they once were.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
