Been watching all the devastation from hurricane Helene this weekend

And I wonder if all the people in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina realize that if they elect Trump and he implements project 2025, they will end the National Flood Insurance Program and increase the threshold for disaster declarations by FEMA making it harder for states to get federal aid.

So we would have to pay to receive weather forecasts.

I’m taking a check over to the Red Cross later this morning.

This article does a nice job explaining the fuckery going on in Project 2025 and how long these plans have been in place.

The "faith" they bought into make them double down on their meanness - their cult leadership has made sure they have dedicated themselves to a war against Woke, or liberalism, or even compassion, because those concepts leads to the slavery - of Communism. They have been convicted that slavery of caste, to the community elite, or the ability to die in a ditch due to access few choices is freedom compared to Democracy.
They would rather die than admit they made a terrible choice for their families or future. That they were wrong.
They've been infantalized. They think emotionally; they will yell "Save Me", then turn around and tell those who dropped everything and worked to save them " Fu*k you, God saved me, the Deep State is still evil"
Because there's a certain group of rich assholes who want to rule rather than support the Democracy that they used to get rich in the first place.

This hurricane created massive devastation that is beyond any single state to deal with. Coordinating the rescue, cleanup, and rebuilding operation requires a multi-state effort that only the Federal Government can provide.
Given the increased frequency of these massive disasters, we should be looking to increase the FEMA budget, not decrease it.
When I drive down an interstate, I have often seen lines of trucks that are going to a disaster area to help in its aftermath. They can be coming from 1000 miles away to help. How would gutting FEMA make that better?
Can you imagine how long it would take North Carolina to recover from Helene if they didn't have FEMA to bring in the money and support that was needed?

Afaik, NFIP exists to cover what private insurance won’t cover. Florida, Texas, and all the areas damaged by Helene, etc., would be screwed by another tRump administration.

Save the companies, drown the humans in bad ideas is the essence of Project 2025. When it’s not talking about nannying or big-brothering Americans, forcing a narrow Christian worldview, criminalizing human nature, pushing racism and outright fascist methods, Project 2025 calls for privatization, deregulation, and govt contract handouts.

If I were to mint a coin representing the dastardly plan, on one side there’d be a burning cross, and on the obverse, a factory billowing smoke on the horizon with a bare tree and dead bird in the foreground.

When I said, it’s all about, “Save the companies,…” that only applies to a relatively small few corporations. The whole thing is a recipe for a depression. They cannot gut the workings and people of the country and keep the economy humming along.

Certain land should be left as farms, forest and fields. These include floodplains, eroding coastlines, and unstable hills. Geologists and soil scientists have data. Unfortunately, most folk elected to planning boards are backed by developers who want to 'build baby, build'. Additionally, more robust building codes would lead to stronger structures able to withstand all that man and nature throw at 'em. Again, progress is stymied by the type of folk who get elected to positions deciding code standards. Thankfully residents were forewarned and the smart ones evacuated because of NOAA and the Hurricane Center actions. FEMA will be able to help the internal refugees. What will be harder to change is ignorance and greed which made this disaster worse than it should have been.
