I was listening to some survivors on NPR and I started boo-hooing driving home from work. Whole towns have been wiped off the map. A little town in Florida, mostly trailer homes, is gone. Steinhatchee. These people didn't have a pot to piss in to begin with, and now their whole town is leveled by storm surge.
I have survivor's guilt for being right in the path and just having the lights flicker.
I wish everyone well and hope you and your families are safe tonight. Hug them close. Life can be fleeting. My condolences to anyone who is experiencing losses from this storm.

(15,100 posts)We live down the road from Erwin, TN, on the other side of the bridge that is no more. We lost power for about an hour. Our neighbors lost power for over 3 days, so they also didn't have water because they have a well. Now the power is mostly on in the area, but there is no municipal water. So we've offered showers and laundry to our friends who need it. It's the best we can do. They come out of shower smiling like they won the lottery.
I can't even imagine what people are going through, and we've been through plenty of hurricanes in Florida.
We have friends in Western NC who live up in the mountains. We haven't heard from them because the cell phone towers are out. Needless to say, we're very concerned.

(15,100 posts)They are in their 80s and way up on the hill. If they were just cut off, that would be one thing. But there is no water or electricity there. They were likely prepared, being familiar with hurricanes. I hope so.
