A HERETIC I AM

(24,876 posts)
Tue Oct 1, 2024, 10:04 PM Oct 2024

I started watching the debate and then it dawned on me; I really don't give a fuck.

I could care less what these two guys have to say to each other. I already know enough about the two of them that nothing either of them might say will sway me one way or the other.

I already know that one of them is the running mate of a well educated, lucid, eloquent and qualified person, ready to take on the role as President. The other is nothing more than a send up, put there by the folks that desperately want to institute the Project 2025 plan on this country and no matter what happens, that is what they are truly aiming for. If they are unsuccessful (which they will be) their movement is doomed and they know it.

The conservative powers that be don't give 2 shits about Trumpy any more. They know he is damaged goods. But they will try their best to sell us on JD "I'm just a regular hillbilly like the rest of you" Vance as if he is actually qualified to be president.

He isn't.

Governor Walz has some shortcomings to be sure, but integrity, decency and ability are not among them.

JD Vance is nothing more than a poseur hoping someone, somewhere will take him seriously.

Just mute Senator Vance and watch Governor Walz.

Vance committed no obvious gaffes, but he also likely didn't endear himself to the base, and I doubt he made much of an impression either way on the undecideds. Walz came off as more real and sincere, no real zingers, but also clearly the voice of sense here. Vance came off as a canned politician.

made up their minds---

and you have to go back to 1960 to point out any circumstance where the VP candidate may have made much difference---

but JFK would have won that election, even without Texas.

Nobody scored any knockout, and Walz held his own-- so this debate is a wash.

He avoided so many gotchas it was like trying to run through landmines. Compulsive liars like Vance don't deal with landmines because they're never called on it.

Regardless the MSM will call for another debate with Trump and Kamala and if Trump is stupid enough to do it it'll take any air out of this debate. Trump for certain will have his ego tarnished by that fact.

Harris knows how to knock 'em down; Walz know how to build people up.

This is not to say that Harris can't be uplifting; but a cornered Trump is dangerous and we need someone who can stand their ground and bring dangerous people to accountability.

Walz's role is to round out the ticket and soften the culture shock of a woman of color president. He's perfect for that function.

Why Vance was chosen is beyond my analysis. He's not at all likable and it seems as if even the Trump cultists can sense that Trump doesn't really like him. Maybe his former antipathy towards Trump and his subsequent change appealed to Trump's need to dominate?

As for the debate, we knew that it wasn't going to be as lop-sided because Vance has some capabilities. I didn't watch for many of the same reasons that others have mentioned. but I have confidence that Walz's basic strengths came through.

He picked him for Veep because Vance sucked up to him and because Trump wants an attack dog surrogate.

Remember Trump picked Pence because he thought he came “right out of central casting.”

With Trump everything is about himself first and foremost, and second, image.

It wasn't just "central casting", it was a cost-cutting, merch-based decision.

There is just a two letter difference between the names "Pence" and "Vance". They didn't want to strain their budgets or the intellect of whoever had to input the change into their graphic design computer program.

"Just move the cursor over the pee and the ee and type in vee and aay. Then hit enter and you're done. We won't even have to shell out any more money for increased use of printer ink. We are So Smart!"

Oh, and my biggest fear is that while Pence had scruples -- no matter how much I disagreed with some of his beliefs-- Vance has none. . . On the other hand, both Pence and Vance probably have suppressed homosexual inclinations. O.M.G., but wouldn't the world be a better place if we all knew and accepted ourselves?

that the only reason a Republican will appear in the debates, is to one by one re-enforce the ludicrous Republican talking points, so that Fox can have sound bites and video of them appearing. Fox certainly isn't gonna show much of Walz, unless it is something they can misconstrue, or lie to make him look bad........

Hell, Fox probably tells Vance in advance, what they need him to say to make sure they get great video sound bites....

Trump wouldn't be able to make it through an entire presidential term, probably not even half of one. He's old, fat and unhealthy - both mentally and physically. If he doesn't actually croak, his already fragile mental state will deteriorate to the point where he'll get the 25th Amendment heave-ho, and either way Vance would take over. And Vance is the puppet of the billionaire tech bros, the Christian nationalists and Putin. He's every bit as mean as Trump but he's smart and organized and just as capable of making the trains to the camps run on time as Heinrich Himmler. We need to know exactly what Vance is and what he intends to do. He's Project 2025 made flesh.

They both were polite and held their own. They were cordial to each other. BUT that's only if seen through the average viewer's eyes. It only worked that way because evidently the handlers and trainers told Walz to tone being homey (a mistake, in my mind), and Vance was slicker than shit on shinola. Trump can't even lie as slickly as Vance can! I think the real trouble with T being reelected is when the 25th amendment him and put Vance in the oval office. That man is deadly evil and lie as smoothly as Satan, himself.

I'd really like to meet this man that Vance was describing all through the "debate"... it certainly wasn't the person trump has shown himself to be for the last decade! He made him sound almost wonderful to know and be around. (gack)

And when did the VP get so much power? Did ya'll notice that at one point, Vance even called the present administration the "Harris-Biden Administration?" That certainly isn't how I learned things in my old civics class! The VP is the person-in-waiting to be president should anything happen to the President. That's the most important job the VP has. Next would be the tie-breaking vote in the Senate. Then comes anything the President may delegate. But that's it for the VP. They truly have no power, in and of themselves! And yet, to hear Vance talk tonight, you'd think Harris had already been and still is president!
