That anyone was impressed with this soulless fascist with more baggage than the carousels at a hub airport is disturbing, but then media love actors. Fuck form and examine content.
That is all

By the end of the debate his suit coat was in tatters and all I had was a few loose threads.

(1,459 posts)And about the sound bites that get replayed, or even parodied.
Everyone remembers the fly on Mike Pences head, but not much else, so it will be a few days before we know if this debate helped, hurt or did no harm.
Whats the stuff that people will remember?
Unfortunately very few watch the debates but everyone sees the memes and sound bites that are replayed over and over again on tic too or x.
We will see how SNL portrays it, because thats usually a good guide to what will be remembered.
I never understood the cheers, or the hand wringing on the first morning after a debate.
I think Walz did fine and held his own (except for saying he was friends with school shooters). And yes I know he left out the word victims!

(296,098 posts)You are campaigning for VP and dont have the basic manners or respect to refer to the sitting VP by her title -not effin once.
That optic looked the same to me as his walking over to claim her aircraft a few weeks ago.

(1,459 posts)In the end its who will do the best job, not who wins a debate according to the media.
And I hate the disrespect shown overall nowadays.
You are 100% correct JD is a sleazy ass, and its our job to point that out!

(6,828 posts)And Gov. Walz came across as genuine and neighborly. I think that contrast alone, in and of itself, will be the collective conclusion of the evening, leading positively into next month.

(55,133 posts)He even did accordian hands to massage reality. Inserted barbs before answering questions with lies. Didn't move his head, which came off as emotionless. That was the key for me. Cold and cunning. He's more interested in being right than caring about Americans. JD Vance is dangerous. And he'll resurface in 2028.

(7,794 posts)They croon that Vance was "smooth throughout" while Walz was "less than honest". Cherry picking their own versions of misinformation to bolster the impossible image that, somehow, with Vance on board, Trump's foolishness is leavened and that gives voters adequate excuse to vote Republican despite the evidence before their eyes. Evidence they won't repeat lest it inform their viewers' minds.
This morning, the media, near universally, frames every truthful point Walz made in response to the senator's lying an ugly attack designed to distract attention from Harris' flailing campaign.
Did I mention that the media is dishonest in its reporting? Well, they are.

(37 posts)He hates women. His disparagement of us is the one thing that mostly sticks out to me. He views as a necessary evil. If scientists come up with a way to make babies artificially, he would suggest killing real woman and replacing us with furniture.

(60,967 posts)Not to equate the honorable Gore to Vance, remember he initially was seen to have won the first debate, only to lose after coverage of sighing.
Here, the 2020 answer is already an issue. He failed to tell the truth AND his deflection claiming Harris with censoring on COVID in 2020 when she was a Senator is not believable.
I hope they use the ACA huge lie of Trump improving ACA with Walz's excellent summary of the truth, adding video ( or just a photo) of John McCain with his iconic thumb down moment and a few short Trump words through 2015 through 2020 calling for ending it.
There is likely something to be done on Vance's vs Walz's answers on abortion. Less important, but stunning to me was Vance speaking of it being hard for his wife even though she is a highly skilled lawyer. Too bad she alone had childcare responsibility even though she was not a single mother! Did anyone else find that bit jarring?
I also hope that there will be more coverage of Minnesota's expansion of housing. The states have often been called the laboratories of the nation. It would be interesting if things they did could work elsewhere. Certainly better than Vance and Trump vaguely saying to build on federal land. Walz asking where and questioning if that is also where they want to drill was good. Minnesota seems to have added substantial housing, where people want to live.
On the housing issue, Walz also had a great answer to Vance blaming it on regulations. Most building regulations are local, not federal and they protect the people who live in them.
