He was nervous at first, but soon as he settled down, Tim went to work. Tim schooled JD in a manner that went right over JD's head.

What the American people saw and heard was a man who cares about this country, its people, and its future. He spoke directly into the camera so we could hear him solidify the Harris/Walz commitment to the ideals of what this country stands for. A stark difference was drawn.

It's now up to the voters to ask themselves what kind of country they want. One where they have a shot to get ahead! Or one where the doors are closed to opportunity of any kind.

I know what kind of country I want.

Trump and his minions slow walked and obstructed the ordinary and orderly transition to a new Preside (i.e. witholding funding, preventing the Biden transition team from full access), continued to spread lies about the election and promulgated conspiracy theories about the outcome, culminating in Trump fomenting a riot on January 6 that he didn't lift a finger to stop for several hours and, in fact, appeared to have even obstructed efforts to intervene earlier via the National Guard.

It transfers from president to president automatically through no further action or inaction on the part of the outgoing office-holder.

I half wonder if Trump hoped that by not attending Joe Biden's inauguration, he thought he might be able to withhold "handing over" power. "I wasn't there to give it to him, so he isn't President!"

Losing ANYTHING is anathema to him. He was raised by old Fred to regard losing as the worst thing that could ever happen to a person.

He also can't stand to not be the center of attention. Attending an inauguration that wasn't his own would be both a public admission of failure AND taking a back seat to someone else. Either of those things would be intolerable to him, much less both at once!

We'd be foolish not to use it.

All Vance had to say was, "yes, Joe Biden won the 2020 election," and the whole subject would have been a non-issue.
Biden has been president for almost four years and he's not running for re-election. Vance had nothing to lose at this
point. What does he think he's going to do? Initiate six more months' worth of lawsuits to end a presidency that ends in four months?

But, no, he just couldn't bring himself to say the words. Fine. We'll take it from here, thank you very much.

"JD, what in hell are you talking about? On January 6, 2021, he launched an insurrection with the goal of throwing the election into the House of Representatives where it would be decided in his favor. We will probably be arresting and locking up Trump supporters for the next ten years over that, and we'll probably never catch them all. There was nothing peaceful about the transfer of power in 2021."
