Drumpf's Longshoreman pal millionaire Harold DAGGETT threatens the country

So, striking for increased wages is a given, but “protection from automation” good luck with that? Jobs can’t be completely replaced by automation, nor would the laboring want to do without it completely, so are they asking for upgraded jobs managing the inevitable automated advancements? It’s like the coal miners opposing green energy.

But this union millionaire president dude, Harold DAGGETT is threatening – whom – BIDEN? Threatening to take down the whole country. And he pals around with Drumpf, so what happens if Drumpf takes over, well Drumpf isn’t averse to taking down the country. But will DAGGETT then get some kind of deal from Drumpf, something like selling the country down the river – a comfortable rest stop pending Drumpf turning the country over to PUTEEN, China, and Kim.

Longshoremen Union President Sends Warning Message About Impact of Strike: ‘This Port Will Never Open Up Again… I’m Not Playing!’..

…. In addition to increased wages, the workers are also seeking protection from automation in the new contract. In the meantime, however, there are concerns that the strike will lead to a shortage of goods and, inevitably, a rise in inflation.

On Tuesday, ILA President Harold Daggett joined the picket line in New Jersey to send a strong message about just how harmful the strike will be if their demands aren’t met.

“Those greedy companies are making billions of dollars and they don’t want to share,” Daggett said in an interview posted to NBC New York’s TikTok account. “That’s why we’re out here now, fighting for a contract. We’re gonna fight for it and we’re gonna win it, or this port will never open up again — from here to Houston. I’m not playing games here!

“Nobody knew what the longshoremen were! We didn’t get respected, but now we will! Now we will when they find out malls are gonna shut down because goods can’t come in. Car salesmen are gonna get laid off. Well, guess what? Everything that comes in this country come from the containers off these ships that my men work; and I want the world to know it! Don’t come after us saying we’re greedy Go after those greedy bastards that own these companies in Europe. Go after them! They’re sitting there taking $4 billion bonuses for themselves at Christmas time. That’s gotta stop!”

1. I'm about to lose my job due to this strike

Unbelievable garbage. 70% wage hike and no automation. Here is a clue…70% wage hike drives automation. Our offshore vessels were already a cluster of late shipments, high costs, and endless delays. It is making the US uncompetitive for our products already. I’m fed up here.

7. In a nutshell
Wed Oct 2, 2024, 04:56 PM
Oct 2024

And this is very much a nutshell.

Part is a pay raise, the companies agree to this, but how much is the negotiation. The union wants 70%, the companies agree up to about 40%. This part is workable.

The second part is automation. The Union wants to restrict it. Job loss. Port authorities and companies want to modernize technology which will affect jobs. US ports are pretty inefficient and surprisingly behind in technology compared to Europe and Asia. The unions want to resist this, but there's no pushing it off. Traffic will gravitate to smaller US non-Union ports with technology updates(there are a few) and Union ports will suffer the traffic loss and lose jobs anyway. The technology still needs maintenance and oversight. The jobs just change.

The technology is so far behind, companies are in discussions about building new ports from scratch with all new technology so the legacy jobs won't be there anyway.

It does not help the Union Boss, ILA leader Harold Daggett pulls in a salary of $900,000 a year(all total with the various salary packages), owns a mega yacht, has a pretty sweet high end car collection, and supposedly represents "the working man". It's not a good look when he puts how well he's done out on display.

Hopefully they find the happy middle ground quickly. If this goes on just a couple weeks, we'll see covid flash backs to the supply chain right in time for elections.

10. The sentiment from another DUer I just interacted with: The port union jobs are more important than your job.

In my view this is a National security issue and the ports should be automated. From what I’ve read the obstacles to that are money and the land footprint of some US ports makes that challenging.

I usually support the worker but he’s obnoxious. There are a lot of hard workers who deserve a piece of the pie but don’t walk off the job and take pleasure in hurting others. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

We will have shortages in time for Christmas for what boils down to absolutely greed. Mark my words, this will hurt us at the election and this will completely change the view on unions.

13. Neither Daggett nor the ILA have endorsed either presidential candidate

… In the wake of the port strike starting, attention has turned to Daggett. Social media users shared a photo of him and Trump from a meeting in November. Daggett, a New York native, said in a statement in July that he's known Trump for "decades" from New York City. He added that they're the same age and both from Queens.

In November, Daggett met with Trump in Mar-a-Lago, which he called a "wonderful" and "productive" meeting.

"President Trump promised to support the ILA in its opposition to automated terminals in the U.S. Mr. Trump also listened to my concerns about Federal 'Right To Work' laws which undermines unions and their ability to represent and fight for its membership," Daggett said.

15. Aren't the workers making over 100,000 a year now

I know it's hard work but so are many other union jobs making much less. They want 70% more it just seems higher than any increase I've ever heard of. Sorry if I offend anyone it's not my intention.
