His "father figures" were his globetrotting Uncle and his male teachers.
He joined the Army Reserves in 1956, did two years, came back and married Mom, joined the CANG for the GI Bill, had me, and worked his way to a Masters in Education working as an evening Mechanic at full service gas stations.
Lost his teaching job in California due to Governor Ronnie good-hair, went back to school and got a Masters in Far East History and a Certificate in Computer Science at the same Jr. College where Bill Gates was learning advanced Computer technology, all while working as an adjunct "professor" and coaching Baseball and Soccer. Got a full-time job teaching AP High School History and Computer Science. Rejoined the Navy Reserves when he was 48 years old for the fun of it. Teaching was his life.

Tim Walz is like my Dad.
