The only problem is that Haley Joel Osment has a natural warmth and vulnerability that filters through his performance. Some actors are good enough to transcend that, though. Daniel Day Lewis and David Wenham can play chilling bastards and (from what I have gleaned) are still essentially gentle people.

As for Vance, I have now heard two people in the public sphere compare him to the evil doll, Chucky. Make of that what you will.
