James Fallows: Do we detect any subtle difference in the way these two news breaks were played?

James Fallows
My hypothesis: Any historian of our era will say that the Jack Smith dossier about Donald Trump is 1000x more important than HRC emails found on Anthony Weiner's cell phone.

My question: Do we detect any subtle difference in the way these two news breaks were played?

NYT editorial board needs to be called out about this at every turn.

The entire page was devoted to the making of a “scandal”.

To put a minor headline with a smaller story almost under the fold is just minimizing.

Assfucks … that is all they are. So glad I took my money away from the 7 years ago.

although even their paper was less absorbent than that used by The Boston Globe. Still, it did the job if I didn't get around to changing the litter quite in time.

One of my flatmates was a tabloid journalist who combed several east coast papers a day for buried stories.

This is not the first time you have seen this double standard. Trump used to happily cheer for US adversaries to hack his political opponents and the media had no qualms about releasing the hacked materials. However, now that his campaign is targeted, not only is the Trump campaign opposing disclosure, but media organizations are happy to sit on the hacked materials.

https://apnews.com/article/trump-campaign-hacking-iran-769d8411d9a13ef9a0e039c0b6c3b032

Donald Trump was once a cheerleader of publicizing hacked materials. “Russia, if you’re listening,” Trump said during a press conference in his 2016 presidential run, when Hillary Clinton’s deleted personal emails were a hot topic, “I hope you are able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.”

“I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press,” he said back then.

That changed when Trump’s latest presidential campaign declared this weekend it had been hacked by Iran. “Any media or news outlet reprinting documents or internal communications are doing the bidding of America’s enemies and doing exactly what they want,” Steven Cheung, the campaign’s communications director, said in a statement on Saturday announcing that the campaign had been hacked.

The campaign has not responded to questions about why its view on hacking changed, including a query on Monday from The Associated Press. But its new position is a striking change from 2016, when Trump heartily embraced the Russian hacking of his opponent Clinton’s aides and the Democratic National Committee.

They are catapulting the propaganda for Trump. All the corporate media is. This is why people are voting for the idiot at all. Without this propaganda.....Trump would be lucky to get 600 votes and all of them from the filthy-rich.

But when you rig a capitalist economy to feed all the national wealth and resources only to the the already wealthy, then only the filthy-rich corporate owners can afford to catapult the propaganda.

When we call out the Times for bias there are always people accusing us of being in an info silo. But the Times is constantly showing us they are in the tank for La Donald.
