Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have a question with regards to what I am assuming is BS on FB
I am seeing some of my RW friends on FB posting that NC isnt getting enough response from the feds. They keep saying that Harris has promised $750 to help rebuild. I am doubtful of their info as they, Im assuming, get their news from RW sources. Is there better info to counter this? I am not seeing much info regarding the response. I know it is going to take a LONG time to get these areas back to normal. I am just worried that this could affect voter reaction and participation in a promising state like NC. I thank all of you in advance, and am asking you all because you are the wisest and most informed people I know.

It's a right mess out there, and only one thing is for certain:
Republicans do not want to fund any aid whatsoever.

(44,829 posts)I remember there were so many trees down. The roads were completely blocked, and there was no way to get to a lot of different places until the workers came in and cleared those roads.

(2,937 posts)but far enough west that we were spared the devastation. But I saw a photo of I-40 from WNC to TN. The entire outside lane had fallen when the mountain below it gave way to a landslide. The lanes in one direction of interstate are just gone, AND the land supporting them is now gone. I have never seen anything like that. Mountain to the side of the inside lanes, as so many roads here have. How is that fixable??? Imagine an entire half of an interstate you travel, the entire thing in one direction for a distance, just falling down a hole. There is nothing to build on, there is no land beneath it now. A huge bridge from the ground up?

(61,194 posts)The BS on Facebook is out of this world right now.
Dont know if its just the MAGA cult or the Russians or what.
I do know they are aggressive and will do the MAGA name calling and personal attacks if you question their BS.

(15,359 posts)is all we need. He actually had people waste time and effort to clear a little area for him and build that stupid wall! That took a small crew busting their asses. There isn't anything they could have been doing that wouldn't have been more helpful to someone.
Then he lied about bringing in supplies and Biden and Kemp and the lack of response.
FEMA just might not be big enough this time.

(69,365 posts)Western North Carolina is truly devastated.the state and the feds are doing everything they can, as quickly as possible.
I am very angry to hear this being politicized.

(200 posts)That the $750 is immediate relief to buy food and water and clothes and such. She then promised that the states and the cities and homeowners will be fully 100% reimbursed for their losses.
That no city or state should have to worry about paying for their normal services to their communities because they will be fully reimbursed.
Also that FEMA will help the citizens pay their insurance deductibles so it won't have to come out if their pockets. FEMA is also going door to door to provide food for people. Hope this helps. Comments pertaining to this topic begin at around the 3 minute mark.

(7,991 posts)People got off the buses in Houston with nothing but what was on their backs, often wet and dirty. Each one got a debit card to meet immediate needs clothes, food, sanitary supplies, toiletries, etc.
Imagine what you would need immediately if you were plucked from a rooftop, and transported to another city.
It is a coordinated attack. That's why I don't do FB.

(791 posts)that money is not the full FEMA relief thats money given immediately to buy clothes, food diapers or to get a hotel or rental for temporary housing. and its 750 per person per household. Its a lie being perpetuated to get voters mad about stuff like aid to Ukraine, Israel, and elsewhere or benefits like SNAP instead of disaster victims

(9,101 posts)Stories include a "public meeting" called at Chimney Rock where attendees were conveniently forbidden from recording proceedings and were told their town was going to be bulldozed and their homes confiscated under "eminent domain", supposedly to clear the way for large-scale quartz and lithium mining.
Other claims include confiscation by FEMA of aid materials brought by members of the public, arrest of those trying to bring them, and total wilful lack of government help, all interspersed with invocations of Maui and calls for a people's militia uprising.
On being challenged for proof, the usual tactics lead to reliance on some shady videos from dubious sources, hearsay at many removes from events, and calls to "do your own research".
All of this has not gone without sane pushback, often from those with firsthand knowledge of the situation on the ground, and some of those spreading the disinformation are well-known shitstirrers and clickbait merchants.
