Polls after the VP debate showed viewers desperately want a more civil politics. That's why Vance toned it down. Someone should run a chunk of this as an ad. It doesn't matter that people don't like the press. A lot more don't like meanness and don't want more of it.

Not everyone wants a catfight in all things political. Walz's approach would no doubt appeal to those who think that politics is already too confrontational, and there are more of them than we might expect.

There might've been instant polls or focus groups he drew his assumption from. But, it's conceivable that a majority of our neighbors or coworkers or even family are turned off by the GOP's negativity.
