are the big races around here. I've seen one Harris/Walz bumper sticker, a few leftover Biden/Harris signs, but otherwise all the yard signs are for local elections. Besides president, we're also have an election to fill Feinstein's senate seat, and the local Congressional seat (the incumbent is retiring after 30 some years) - one of the candidates for the latter is bombarding cable channels with ads, but I've heard nary a peep from Schif or his opponent, Whatshisname.

This area gets high turnout for elections and mostly votes Democratic, but it would be nice to see some big ticket candidates without having to pay upwards of $500 for the privilege.

I hadn't thought about that! She's such a legislative branch powerhouse that I hadn't really considered her as governor (though I would be happy to see her in a Cabinet-level role). I was proud to vote for her in the Senate primary and would love the chance to vote for her for statewide office again. Seeing this post, I did a bit of searching and I am very pleased to see that she's at least considering it, and that she seems to have some early support.

I'm seeing Harris/Walz, Lucas Kunce, Crystal Quade (governor) signs all over the place. Almost no yard signs or bumper stickers for the orange con man. But then, Columbia is a blue oasis in a red desert. Still, I think Kunce has a good chance. Harris and Quade, alas, probably not so much. I'm seeing Lucas Kunce TV ads all the time and none for Quade. I wonder if that has something to do with Kunce having a much better chance? And I keep wondering, why isn't Quade running ads on TV?

The Missouri at Texas A&M football game is about to start, so I'm going to leave the computer now and plant myself in front of the 50-inch TV ...

My daughter is excited about politics for the first time ever. She has always voted, since we drilled into her how important it is - usually based on a sample ballot I've filed it for her. Since the importance has felt more theoretical than real to her.

But she is excited this year - having me listen to a podcast by a young man who specializes in demolishing the MAGA crowd, sending me memes and videos, and even telling me that Harris missed her recent EOQ goals for funding.

Shortly after the Harris , she asked if I thought Harris would visit Ohio, since we should go to a rally. Is love to support her enthusiasm by taking her to a rally.

30. Too many constraints
Sat Oct 5, 2024, 10:54 AM
Oct 2024

1. Time. Highly abbreviated campaign, by May most candidates have sewn up the primaries and can pivot to the general. Kamala didn't have that luxury. For all intents and purposes her campaign started in August.
2. Money. Thanks to Citizens United, these races have become extremely expensive, so everything becomes a cost/benefit analysis.
3. Commitments. Kamala Harris is Vice President, Tim Walz is a governor. These responsibilities don't go away simply because you are campaigning.

I do have to wonder though if, as they start leveraging more star power whether people like the Obamas or the Clintons could go to Alabama or Missouri, if only as a sign that Kamala is on the offensive (I consider Florida a target as well). The one big advantage that Harris has is that she is amassing an army of proxies, something that Trump is finding harder and harder to achieve (he's stiffed most of them).

just a quick story for you …. our local dems have been inundated with sign requests … and our coffers (notoriously always empty) have been receiving donations from folks we didn’t even know existed have been sending in money … we are running more ads weekly and will be doing a flyer insert that will have pretty good coverage … one side about all of our candidates (from Kamala on down to the county level) and the other side, explaining about project 2025.

Do not give up hope … we are in this to win.

they probably would have. But since electorally speaking the US consists of only seven states, they are stuck with having to concentrate the campaign there. Maybe the Electoral College seemed like a good idea when there were just a few states and just a few people (and even fewer voters), but it's sure a crap deal now. They aren't coming to Minnesota either.

Remember all the criticism HRC got after Trump won because at the end of the race she spent time in states like Arizona rather than doubling down on securing the blue wall. In fact, she DID spend a lot of time in PA which she lost.

With Harris, there was no primary election, which is usually the time for visits to non swing states. I would love to see a Harris rally, but it would be crazy if she waisted time in Vermont, where she easily wins.
