WTF MSNBC???

The Jonathan Capehart show started tonight with minute after minute after minute of Trump's Butler rally, raw and unfiltered. It went on and on. Even Fox isn't doing that for him anymore., are they?

That isn't news. That isn't political commentary. It's a campaign contribution.

There is still a huge amount to convey about Helene, the approaching Milton, FEMA, and the Speaker saying that a supplemental for FEMA can "with" until after the election

The very scary expansion of a regional war in the Middle East.

The very positive economic results

The tentative settlement of the dock strike, which had the potential of harming the election

Every one of these especially the last two were undercovered while there was nothing particularly new about Trump's rants. Needless to say, it is rare when media gives anyone else that kind of unfiltered coverage.

CNN and the NYT used to be decent center-oriented places and slowly began to embrace MAGA narratives.

Hillary is right that we need to repeal or modify section 230. There needs to be liability for misinformation and accountability for reporting that amounts to political donations in kind.

It doesn't matter if people "like" Trump, he is constantly pounding away on people's grip on reality. So what if we don't "fall for it" or if we see through it? He doesn't need many to cause some really horrific consequences.

I don't think even his followers believe the things he says, but they like them. He makes them feel powerful, he makes them feel like they belong. He is a master propagandist, a manipualtor. He is extremely dangerous. Giving him a platform is irresponsible.

Voting is not the issue. If you are fine with running Trump 24/7 then you are seriously underestimating the danger.

Historically running the sort of things Trump is saying 24/7 has not ended well; in Europe in the 30s, for example and in many places since: Yugoslavia, Myanmar, Rwanda

What happened to the "equal time" rule?

I've not watched MSNBC in a long, long time. I get my news here and occasionally at Scripps News, BBC News, PBS NewsHour and Amanpour and Company. I also listen to the local public radio station.

I occasionally read the Kyiv Post at https://www.kyivpost.com/ Kyiv Independent here https://kyivindependent.com/ Ukrinform here https://www.ukrinform.net/ The New Voice of Ukraine https://english.nv.ua/ and I have a subscription to the Washington Post but I might read it once a week and I should probably cancel it.

Any other suggestions for news? I'm willing to explore. Thanks!

From Paste Magazine in 2016:

Lucky for me, this weekend provided the perfect subject. Jonathan Capehart is a writer for the Washington Post, and last Thursday, he wrote an opinion piece called “Stop sending around this photo of ‘Bernie Sanders.” I want to warn you now that this is a very minor example—a small, stupid example, in fact. I don’t think it will have any tangible effect on the primary race. Yet despite its relative insignificance, it serves as a perfect microcosm for the pattern that has emerged over and over and over again in this election cycle: A dishonest narrative propagated by a supposedly neutral journalist, with perfect timing, in an attempt to smear Bernie Sanders. This one hits all the right beats, including that epiphanic moment when we discover the journalist’s ties to Hillary Clinton, and the purpose of the hit pieces strikes with a terrible clarity.

I didn't leave it on to hear Capehart's explanation. His explanation is awful. Trump staged the whole thing as a propaganda stunt, a very dangerous one. It is right out of the Nazi playbook - the "chosen one with divine protection," the martyrdom and vengeance fantasies. Capehart gave Trump a platform for his stunt. He let it run and run and run through Trump's entire venomous message.
