Norman Ornstein: Tonight saw a screening of The Apprentice. It opens next week, see it.

Norman Ornstein
Tonight saw a screening of The Apprentice. It opens next week, see it. You will understand why Trump tried to quash it from being out before the election, and threatened to sue. Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Peters as Roy Cohn. Monsters made for each other, not fit for a decent society.

4. Me, too. Everyone in NY & NJ knew what a bilious, ego-driven bully he was.

I remember Jimmy Breslin and Mike Lupica in the NY papers (but not the Post) just tearing him up for being the schmuck from Queens. Then tearing into the Post for printing his bull squat just to get attention.

(My favorite? When less than a year after Princess Diane’ death he told the Post he could have “done her.” And the Post put it on the front page! I’m surprised the British ever let him in the count after that.)

As I told people then and now - “Next time - believe us when we tell you he’s a hose-bag!!”

I was: when I was 14 - 16. 1967 - 1969.

They had Herblock as Editorial cartoonist. Opinion writers: Pete Hamil, Mary McGrory, Jimmy Breslin.

Herb did a cartoon of him for the program of the Gridiron Club dinner the year my dad was president. Herb was with the Washington Post, like Art Buchwald, a contemporary of theirs. Art‘s humor articles and Herb‘s cartoons were nationally syndicated, of course. Genius like that can‘t be confined.

And you bought that paper because of Breslin and Hamil. Breslin in particular.

I was in college in Wisconsin then and often exposed to and read the Chicago newspapers and found - Mike Royko! He was Chicago’s Breslin and vice versa.

Watergate commentator.
And the fun & funny commentary by Art Buchwald.
I read Mike Royko on occasion when he was in a newspaper I read.

So were either...The Chicago Sun-Times,
The Chicago Tribune leaning liberal?

I see too much of him already.

I doubt anything in that movie is going to be a revelation to anyone who has been paying attention.

YMMV

I force myself to listen to one clip a day in case he says something sane. He never does. That’s all I can take.

*****QUOTE*****

In the 1970s, Donald Trump seeks independence from his father's influence. With notorious lawyer Roy Cohn's support, he enters Manhattan real estate and becomes a leader.

****UNQUOTE****

He never sought "independence" from his father, he was bailed out by him till the buzzard died, then grifted off the estate. And living by conning and recruiting sycophants doesn't make a "leader."

I went for Michael MOORE's Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11, but this one gives me pause.

14. In the early 1990's his new casino was LOSING $$$$! The old Klansman bailed him out.

Sent a flunky to go to casino and buy enough gambling chips to cover his ass. Illegal in NJ but he got away with it.

I don’t think the Klansman liked D. Didn’t trust him. Sent him to boarding school to get rid of him. Once asked a reporter who said D was on a flight: “I hope the plane crashes.”

I did not know the evil and danger he represented.
He's just so sick.

I still would like to see this movie.
