Thanks to LiberalArkie for the heads up about GOP Reps and Senators who recently voted against funding FEMA
My Congressman was on the list. As I get his email newsletter, I also knew why he opposed it. Below is my Letter to the Editor of our local newspaper. If you are in a similar position, you have my permission to use any or all of it.
Dear Editor:
With Hurricane Helene raging in the Gulf last week, Congressman _________ voted against extending funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A week earlier, Congressman ________ also voted against a spending plan to avert a government shutdown. He was upset that Congress failed to pass the SAVE Act, making it a crime for non-citizens to vote.
Non-citizens arent voting and Congressman ___________offers no evidence they are. The State's Attorney General has yet to indict anyone for the State crime, and its already federal law: Title 18 U.S. Code Sec 611 makes it unlawful for an alien to vote in a federal election. Just to beat this dead horse some more, Texas requires a Birth Certificate to obtain a drivers license, which is the primary identification necessary for voting.
Congressman ________ continued pursuit of the SAVE Act is a political strategy for the upcoming election; however, his votes could have resulted in real harm to us had Helene or Milton struck here. If he believes non-citizens are voting hes a fool, but if he doesnt and continues to promote this myth in an effort to suppress the vote of American citizens who look like immigrants, hes worse.
