...If any state does not submit certified elector votes to Congress by the deadline, that state's electors will not be counted and the total needed for an electoral college win will be reduced by the number of elector votes that state would have submitted.

So it would basically nullify the entire state's presidential votes if they do not send send elector votes.

However, I can see where they might use this new rule to simply replace legitimate Democratic elector votes with illegitimate republican elector votes based on this new rule, and that would be very f*cked up.

Putin has been very successful in this goal to weaken America by installing Trump as President
in 2016 because of the schisms he would cause in our societies and Governmental institutions.
This is also a perfect example of why so many young people who are educated and or want to
get educated move out of West Virginia when they get a chance.

28. Democracy dying right before our eyes
Mon Oct 7, 2024, 06:11 PM
Oct 2024

This is how our democracy dies.

The ultimate issue for these people has nothing to do with voter or election fraud. This is about not accepting that their guy lost. They're afraid that Trump will lose again (I believe that he will lose) and they simply won't accept that. They still refuse to accept that he lost in 2020. The majority of the Republican party, according to stats I've seen, refuse to accept the 2020 loss. There isn't any evidence and there never has been. But they believe what they want to believe.

The Republicans have refused to play by the rules for decades. This is an inevitable escalation.

This is how any democratic system dies. Once those that are losing the argument refuse to lose then there is no longer a functioning democracy.

Other states will follow and then the Union, bought with so much blood, will be over.

I don't know of any way to stop this--nor do the people that want to preserve our system and our way of life.

West Virginia's electoral votes were very unlikely to have gone to Harris/Walz. But this is setting a precedent for other, larger states to pull the same stunt.

These people are not conservatives. They are reactionary right winger anarchists.

A few legislators have introduced a resolution in the West Virginia state legislature that, even if passed, is toothless. The resolution, which has no legal standing, says …

{snip}

So, who was the legislator who introduced this doomed bill?

It’s kind of a moot point, because the two W states, Wyoming and West Virginia, will be neck and neck in a competition to see which one Trump will carry by the widest margin.

Grammar nazi note: yes, widest, not wider, because one state will be number one and the other number two, with the other 48 far behind.

There was a time when West Virginia was true blue, thanks to Senator Robert Byrd. Byrd went from being a Grand Wizard in the KKK to becoming the guardian of the Constitution in the US Senate. When Byrd died, so did the democratic party. I got thrown off of DU on my very first post because I tried to this community what a gimongus piece of shit that is Joe Manchin. Unfortunately for me, at that time he was still a democrat. With Joes help, the people of West Virginia have been sold a sack full of shit for a couple of decades now. I was a union underground coal miner, later a mining engineer. I got out of the industry in the late 2980's. The writing was on the wall then that the industry was dieing. US Steel and Consolidated Coal were getting out of the coal business. Their mines were sold off and some, not reopened as non-union mines. Shut down , change owners, reopen as non union. All West Virginians heard from politicians was, "we will save your guns and we will save coal!" When Hillary Clinton made her famous statement about putting coal miners out of work, end of story for democrats in West Virginia. Noboby heard or didn't want to hear her second part of that statement, "we will bring in new industry and retrain you!" . nobody heard that. One of the hardest hit with job loss was/is a three county area in southwestern WV. The mines have closed and now there is nothing. The local Walmart closed from a lack of business. Done in by Dollar General. They ain't got no jobs but by damn they still have their guns and they ain't going to let them democrats take them away. Stupid people vote for stupid people.

I don't suppose there's much chance that it won't pass, but if it does, what happens then? I assume lawsuits will be filed and it will probably work its way up to the Supreme Court, the majority of whom we all know cannot be trusted to rule fairly.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if other red states pass copycat resolutions. What a mess.

The Republicans could run a Jeffery Epstein-Al Capone ticket and win West Virginia in 2024 even if the Democratic ticket was Jesus Christ and the owner of the biggest coal mine in West Virginia. To claim they're not going to approve the vote if the Democratic ticket wins is silly because the Democratic ticket won't win there anyway.

Then there is the money shot at the end that sounds like secessionist talk:

"....election fraud or election interference resulting in the Constitutionally illegitimate selection of a President during the 2024 election cycle, the Legislature will be called into special session by the Governor to consider actions to preserve the Freedom of our People.
