(54,615 posts)Kamala and Tim did great, but the questions show little attempt to get new information, or attempt to ask what voters care about.

(20,840 posts)along with all the US citizens who think illegal immigration is the source of all our problems. There is really only one reason that people travel hundreds, even thousands, of miles, sometimes on foot, to come into the United States illegally. They do it because things are better here than they are in their homeland. Now, we WANT for things to be good here in the US, correct? For the most part, we have recovered well from the pandemic crisis. However, what about the countries in Central and South America. If things are hell on Earth there, people will still come here. If people in China want to escape the Communist regime, they will still come here. If people in India want to escape the crushing poverty that pervades their country, they will still come here.
More than anything, as long as there are employers, including people who will hire "illegals" to clean their homes and change granny's diapers in THEIR PRIVATE HOMES, immigrants will come here legally or extra-legally. Any time someone suggests something as simple as making E Verify MANDATORY instead of voluntary, it's shot down by the Republicans in Congress as "anti-business". Immigrants come to the US and do the work that US citizens do not want to do. It's been that way for hundreds of years. There weren't enough US citizens willing to pick cotton, so we brought over slaves. There weren't enough US citizens to build the transcontinental railroad, so we brought over Chinese workers. There weren't enough US citizens to work cheaply building Trump's shitty, overpriced hotels and casinos, so he brought workers in from Eastern Europe. This isn't anything new. Quit acting like it is. I can only assume that, as the US economy recovered from the COVID-19 crisis, there were more employers who needed more workers, and US citizens just couldn't fill those jobs. So they hire immigrants, legal or otherwise, because THE WORK STILL HAS TO BE DONE. The crops still need to be harvested (often by hand), dairies and slaughterhouses still have to be staffed, rooms in hotels still have to be cleaned and construction work still has to be done.
