Musk's primary issue is that he WANTS TO BE a "Trump-level celebrity," but other than his fanboys, he's not particularly well-liked.
And the only reason the fanboys are there is that, LIKE Trump, the fanboys THINK he is "talking their language," rather than manipulating them.
You can get the context here:

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are in the middle of a full-scale Twitter war. Warren called the worlds richest person a freeloader for paying $0 in income taxes in recent years. Musk responded with a series of personal attacks, calling Warren Senator Karen and claiming his income tax bill is about to be the largest in US history.
Lets change the rigged tax code so The Person of the Year will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else, she tweeted Tuesday.
Musk, who has never shied from a Twitter war, replied with a string of insults.
You remind me of when I was a kid and my friends angry Mom would just randomly yell at everyone for no reason, he said in one tweet.
Within 90 days of this, Musk owned Twitter, and became King of the Internet Trolls, bent on poisoning the voting public against Democrats and pimping right-wing lies and conspiracies.
So when you see Elon bouncing up and down like an aroused teen at a Justin Bieber concert, next to his 78 year old bloated rapist felon hero, realize it's all about Musk wanting more tax cuts for billionaires. He's not a "free speech absolutist," he's not the "savior of humanity." He just doesn't want to pay his fair share of taxes when he KNOWS Republicans will give him tax CUTS.

(24,328 posts)"WOW...you mean we can actually have TWO fabulously successful self-made billionaires on THE SAME TICKET who will run America like they run their fabulously successful businesses?"
And if you've followed recent reporting about Musk / Trump, what impressed Trump most was how Musk walked into Twitter and fired a large chunk of the staff.
Trump's plan...with or without Project 2025...is to fire Federal employees and replace them with Trump "loyalists."
So Trump needs a hatchet man with no conscience, feeling, or emotions. And that's Musk. And in return, Musk would get more of those Paul Ryan Tax Cuts for Billionaires.
That's the game being played here.

(12,786 posts)There are laws that allow for the deportation of legal immigrants following due process, (does not apply to citizens, like Puerto Ricans or Musk who is a naturalized US citizen.) for:
Participation in criminal acts
Being a threat to public safety
Violating their visa

(18,860 posts)But DC doesn't seem to actually have the courage to tax wealth.
Proposals of a Billionaires Minimum Tax are encouraging but unlikely to pass... with resistance in both parties.
Like I've always said...
Musk evades taxes LEGALLY because he doesn't HAVE income some years.
He leads a really modest life, no yacht, a small house near SpaceX... he takes loans out for spending money which are non-taxable.
I'm not even sure he owns a car.
He's got private jets, of course... all in SpaceX name.
Musk is the classic case of one who HORDES wealth.
$260,000,000,000 just sitting around. Wrapped up in investments.

(12,786 posts)Taking out loans for spending money?
So, say I get a loan on my paid off house. I would have to pay off the loan with something. So, I pay it off with my Social Security, which is taxable. So where does the tax savings come in? Even if I use capital gains to pay the loan, that's also taxable.
I'm not the most up to date on this. Maybe you can explainbit.

Musk can take loans using his TSLA shares as collateral.
He knows he needs to sell shares every few years when he needs to pay massive taxes on his exercising stock options.
He just specifies the loan term he wants...
He might not even make payments. Might be a 5y balloon payment?
Then down the road when he's forced to sell shares he will pay off his loans.
If you have NO INCOME and don't sell any shares... you have NO income and can technically pay ZERO tax.
Musk has a number of years where he's paid ZERO.
Call it kicking the can down the road... but the richest man in the world can pay ZERO taxes in a year.
