THE TORTURE DID NOT WORK.. The Big Lie is coming around again.

There is a new movie out that posits the claim that post 9-11 torture secured actionable intel.

It did not. The testimony was released to the public. The man sitting in shadow said that information from the suspect STOPPED once the CIA guys started the "enhanced interrogation techniques".

Why are they being allowed to pretend that this new movie is "just walking through the evidence"?

I am horrified at the casual acceptance of this premise. How can we not remind people of the ineradicable stain that this chapter smeared on our National Conscience?

Because torture is always used very *effectively* to further war. You can make someone confess or say *anything* thru torture - hell the manual was specifically written on how to use it (torture) to obtain false confessions. So it does work, it works very well for that.

So you get all these "results" and used them to justify etc, etc. Not to mention it reinforces the will of the 'enemy' to fight.

But 'reliable information' thru torture? Total bullshit. In fact, it's often worse as you can't trust or sort *anything* obtained.

I want to see a "Jack Bauer / 24Hrs" type episode where they're torturing the 'bad guy' and he gives them random crap information. They then act on this, pulling agents off the track of the real (bomb, whatever). Of course in this case the 'confessions' etc are bullshit and they miss the real threats.

3. To think some torture didn't secure intel is a bit naive

The issue is whether it should be used by our government.

...... say that torture doesn't produce any useful intel -- it just produces what the torturer wants to hear.

Good one! I'm no longer convinced such a thing ever existed except in stories we tell our children.
