Donald Trump plans to hold a rally at New York Citys iconic Madison Square Garden, Bloomberg reports.
His campaign is planning to hold the event on Oct. 27 roughly a week before Election Day.
The event threatens to be a security and logistical nightmare, drawing Trump supporters to Manhattan, a Democratic stronghold
The rally is likely to draw protests and place additional burden on law enforcement officials.

(94,109 posts)On February 20, 1939, a Nazi rally took place at Madison Square Garden, organized by the German American Bund. More than 20,000 people attended, and Fritz Julius Kuhn was a featured speaker. The Bund billed the event, which took place two days before George Washington's Birthday, as a pro-"Americanism" rally; the stage at the event featured a huge Washington portrait with swastikas on each side.[1] Approximately 100,000 anti-Nazi counter-protesters gathered outside, attempting to break through lines of police officers guarding the rally on three occasions. The Bund rapidly declined in the aftermath of the rally, with Kuhn being imprisoned for embezzlement by the end of the year.[2]

Similar to when they tried to draw a truck protest group to DC to disrupt traffic and functioning.

(26,008 posts)some MAGA members of Congress.
As election day gets closer, I think that the MAGA faithful will feel more emboldened to show up in an aggressive move against "the libs." He has been riling them up with his rhetoric, lies, and religious posturing at Butler, PA.
The goal of the rally is to intimidate Trump's opponents. I don't think that the Trump campaign would try this move if they weren't sure of a turnout because it would be too embarrassing to have no one show up.
We saw through Vance's lies in the debate with Walz. But MAGAs were thrilled with the debate because Vance postured well as "normal" and came across as strong and articulate in their eyes.
Trump does not draw large crowds by himself any more. He needs gimmicks and guests to draw people together now, like having Musk appear at the "sacred" site of Butler, PA to celebrate God's Chosen One.
A goal of "taking it to the libs" in Manhattan, with guest speakers who appeal to MAGAs, could draw more people than just Trump showing up by himself in swing states or rural small towns.
If the people of Manhattan react with counter protests and clashes develop (maybe instigated by MAGA organizers), it would make good theater for Trump/Vance. I hope that people just ignore them. Or, play loud recordings of laughter just outside the rally perimeter.

(5,011 posts)at the time. His name was President Joe Biden,
and the campaign has been going since 2022...
Trump called for them to show up and raise hell at his trials,
but hardly anyone did... it was pathetic.
We'll see what happens at the garden. Just saying, I have my doubts that he can fill it--
without Elon Musk funding bus transportation from all over the country,
and maybe DonOLD will threaten his own presumed supporters to show up-- lol
It is true-- all the candidates can get more supporters to show up at those big rallies
at the end of the campaign.... As I recall from late 1988,
Michael Dukakis had some pretty good ones---
but then, he wasn't a convicted felon

Smaller than MSG but well setup for TV. I saw James Brown there in 1992.

(53,190 posts)Transporting inmates from Rikers Island to a Trump rally will put the city afoul of the Eighth Amendment. Blue cities don't typically like to violate the Eighth Amendment if they can help it, so...no.
As for mental patients...don't you think exposing them to a Trump rally would set back their treatment? "Sorry, Nurse Ratched, you guys just HAVE to let me out. I'm nowhere near as crazy as that fucking idiot."

(34,909 posts)That fucking dumbass didn't bother to check the schedule. There's a Rangers game the night before, and a Knicks game on the 28th. No way in hell they're going to hold a political rally on the day in between, when they're having to switch over between hockey and basketball. And, the MSC Theater is booked for a concert on the 27th. Can't wait to see what excuse he gives when his "plans" don't materialize. He's probably hoping everyone will forget about it the way he's going to do.
