(211 posts)Imagine your house. Now imagine it with 15 feet of saltwater in it. Oh, and for reference, the average height of a ceiling is 7 feet. So a two story house is completely submerged.

(4,153 posts)Storm surge can inundate costal communities by as much as 25 miles inland according to FEMA.
The storm surge during Ian (12-15 feet) was nearly 15 miles inland in Ft. Meyers.
Storm surge is a dramatic event; and when they say that this event (Milton) is near unsurvivable; it should be heeded as such.

(113,971 posts)high impact areas have said the same and refused to evacuate inmates. That 2 story home was gone with probably only 8-foot surge. Imagine being in a fully packed jail or prison wondering it you will be forced to drown...

(495 posts)The last post demonstrating the height between storm surge and humans is excellent. It's difficult to picture a 15-foot storm surge but that graphic had me saying, "Oh, heck no!"
