(2,248 posts)I do believe he realizes the last debate hurt him and with the race as close as it is, he can't afford to slip in the polls.
So, not debating is probably the smart thing for him.
If he were trailing badly in the polls, I don't doubt he'd be running to the debate stage searching for any traction to get back in the race.
But he doesn't need it right now, unfortunately.

"What a coward!" commented the Republicans Against Trump Twitter account.
The Four Seasons Total Landscaping parody account, meanwhile, taunted Trump by posting a video of a man in a chicken suit.
SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah, on the other hand, speculated that Trump's "handlers won't let him" debate "because he will bomb horribly!"...
