CNN has several reporters out in the hurricane.
I dont need to see people in the rain and wind struggling not to blow away to believe that this is a catastrophic hurricane!
They are talking about how dangerous it is to be outside while they are standing outside. I dont get it.
I just hope for everyone to be safe and ok.

The thing that ticks me off is when they hitch a ride on a rescue boat depriving someone who needs rescue a spot.

(43,850 posts)He was in New Orleans for days and it was the only way I knew what was going on. Ill never forget him befriending a lovely man we knew from the French Market whose wife had a heart attack during the storm and died. My heart broke but his kindness really stood out.
Honestly, if I had a crew like that and the staging they have Id do it. Its a reality check.
Of course its a joke all along the coast that if Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel shows up you had better run. 😄

(13,879 posts)I remember him covering Katrina.
We evacuated for Harvey. We were watching the Weather Channel when we saw Cantore broadcasting from the parking garage in the building where I worked. My husband and I looked at each other, and one of us said, "We're screwed."
We came home two days after the landfall. We had some damage from the hurricane, and had to survive another week without electricity, but things could have been a lot worse.

(2,357 posts)Because his long-term co-parent would be another likely candidate.
Given that the joke was implying Anderson would be dead, it seemed relevant to remind people that two children would be orphaned.

(13,879 posts)WHY they all stay out there when they are dodging debris and wind that looks like it could blow them off the face of the earth.
He's still out there!!!!!

(26,011 posts)during the cyclone bomb blizzard of 1978. The blizzard had winds of 50 to 80 mph. In some places on the Lake Erie shore, gusts were clocked at 110 mph.
The station had an employee inside a downtown bus shelter warning people not to try to travel due to high winds, broken glass windows and flying debris.
She barely got the words out when a gust of wind lifted the bus shelter into the air and blew it away, leaving her and her cameraman exposed. The scene got jumpy as they struggled to grab each other and stay on their feet. Then it went blank.
A voice after that announced that they were ok and had found shelter in a downtown building.

(77,795 posts)I had my doubts originally. I had liked Aaron BROWN, Peter JENNINGS' protege. But then Katrina happened, and Aaron was on his day off or something, golfing, and then Anderson took over. And cried. And I don't doubt his crying sincerity. And don't doubt that he took over like the understudy (think, Lenny BERNSTEIN). So I was suspicious, but ever since then he's proved himself a champ and where is Aaron? (I don't watch Anderson or barely anybody else.)

(603 posts)...one day, a stop sign (or something similar) will come flying along and decapitate one of them on live TV or, one of them is impaled by a 2x4 and instantly killed by it...

(4,710 posts)I agree with an earlier comment, it won't stop until someone is killed on live TV.
I used to keep a screenshot I made off the TV when I still had cable. The reporter so buffeted by wind he could barely stand and he was totally unrecognizable. Debris was flying and sheer luck none hit him.
