Got a text last night to put my trash out, pickup would happen. Happily unbear-proofed the bins and set them out. Came inside to alerts on my phone (Ring doorbell) that someone was at my door. Haven't had one since during the hurricane when the power went out. Belatedly realized that meant MY INTERNET WAS BACK!
Just got back from walking the dog to the sound of drips, ran to the faucet that had been left on and water was coming out (slowly but WHO CARES!)
I feel whole for the first time in weeks. I'll let the pressure build and shower (finally) tomorrow morning.
Also - for the FEMA haters (not on DU) I applied for my $750, got the approval a few hours later, and I swear you to the money was in my account hours after that.
It's crazy because I had been super excited that I got a FedEx notification this morning that my camp shower I ordered soon after the storm was finally arriving today and I won't even need it. I am going to keep it, and keep it in my storm kit.
Wow.
I'm opening the good scotch today, because this is the best day ever.

(495 posts)All of the people, across six states, who were impacted by Helene have been in my thoughts daily. The devastation was heartbreaking and I am so delighted to know that life is looking up for you. Hoping everyone receives the help they need as soon as possible and that life and hope will be restored for all.

(296,118 posts)Been there, done that.
Hurricanes made me understand the things we take for granted - a shower, a glass of cold water, a cold beer.
Oh yes - enjoy.

(15,629 posts)I live in Chicagoland, but over the last four decades have traveled to your neck of the woods about a dozen times to enjoy your mountains and waterfalls.
I've been shocked and saddened over the devastation.

(26,202 posts)Just day hikes, I'm too old for through hiking or anything fancy, but all the parks and trails are still close and I imagine they are not a priority at the moment.

(2,297 posts)And visit the start of your favorite trail. You'll really enjoy helping to fix it, and its a favor to the others who love the trail. Every helping hand matters.

You're a special person. Never forget it.

(194 posts)I'm down in the much less affected area (Cherokee and Clay County) but I'm pouring two fingers of Dalwhinnie and toasting your enjoyment.
Got loads of friends, mostly art related, all over your area. Good to hear your news.
