Does "character" matter?

Does it matter if someone is a good person or is a rotten skunk?

Does it matter if they care about other people?

Does it matter if they are greedy or power-hungry?

Does it matter if they espouse violence and mock the less fortunate?

It's sad, but with a lot of people, it doesn't seem to matter.

These voters are determined to live in the alternate universe they’ve created.
The problem is they are determined to make us live in it as well.

I’ve voted for many a politician that I’d never hire to work for me. Being a politician doesn’t lend itself to attracting people who are principled in a way that reflects a level of good character that I’d want to work with.

Any pol that is steadfastly principled, even in what I consider good ways, will struggle to appease voters Most voters consider themselves principled with good character…within reason, of course.

I guess I just hold pols to a lower standard. Most act no better than they should.

I’m 66 years old and I came up in a time when character was taught to you by parents, teachers, coaches, bosses and so on. To be sure there were always oily individuals, but they were generally pointed out as persons to avoid, not to emulate.

Over time the greed merchants expanded their influence and greed and character are not harmonious, so greed began to shove character aside. This all set the stage for TSF, a man so devoid of character that he literally is in negative territory, to bring his Pied Piper message of hate, bigotry, xenophobia, and isolationism to a mass of people who were already lacking the foundational character qualities to withstand his message. They were overwhelmed and ate up, and here we are.
