I just noticed that Google now returns an "AI overview" for each search. I also noticed the very first such search I saw included a statement that was verifiably dead wrong. And I hate the way AI consumes prodigious amounts of energy.

It gives examples in Chrome -- I can't seem to find something comparable in Firefox. Need to do a little more poking around to find something that works.

If anyone knows an easy way to add to Firefox, please let me know. Here it is:

(27,336 posts)Search for the add on udm14 by Donald Hobern and install it. It looks like there are some other umd14 add ons but this is the one I use.

(42,842 posts)After installing the extension, I had to go to Settings and choose the search engine named "umd14". Any new Google searches now omit the AI overview.

(27,336 posts)It takes some getting used to; it's like a time machine back to 2017, but I'm happy to avoid the AI garbage.
