NJ-11: Sherrill raises $850k in 3rd quarter as her campaign shifts into full gear
Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), a three-term congresswoman and, perhaps more importantly for these purposes, a likely candidate for governor of New Jersey in 2025 raised more than $850,000 in the 3rd quarter of 2024, bringing her total fundraising this cycle up to $4.1 million.
With so much at stake in this election, Ive been working arm-in-arm with federal and local candidates to keep New Jersey blue and elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November, Sherrill said in a statement. Im so grateful for the outpouring of grassroots support for our mission to protect the freedoms we hold dear here in New Jersey including abortion rights and to defeat MAGA extremism at the ballot box.
Sherrill reported having around $1 million left on-hand at the end of the quarter, which would mean that shes spent more than $1.5 million in just the last three months and $3.7 million since the beginning of the cycle.
That high rate of spending isnt because her race for re-election this year is especially competitive. Joe Belnome, her Republican opponent, has reported raising less than $200,000 so far (though he hasnt filed his Q3 reports yet), and almost no one believes Sherrill is in any danger of losing after she won re-election by 19 percentage points in 2022.
But Sherrill is probably looking ahead to elections beyond just this years. With her prospective campaign for governor likely to kick off shortly after Election Day, it behooves her to spend as much as possible on her current re-election campaign to boost her name recognition and favorability ratings hence the ad Sherrill is currently airing across North Jersey, which promotes her past as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot and her work in Congress (while conveniently not mentioning what office shes running for this year).
